So, Jade Dragon added China to the game, as an off-map entity.
This works pretty well, and allows rulers in the area to interact with their eastern neighbors.
I would like to suggest that this idea be extended to a few other offmap regions: basically, having the potential for interactions with other realms.
For example: The Khmer Empire might be very successful, and try to expand into the Indian region. Or, alternatively, they might be persuaded to offer tribute to a powerful empire.
Another example could be Zimbabwe, seeking trade (or tribute) from northern states.
All that would be needed is some titular titles, and events to go with - and thus, the borders of the map can be turned into a far less isolated place.
