In the Global Politics tab/Diplomacy Overview screen of Civ5 I can see an overview of the Social Policies (Traditions) that other nations have achieved. For example, I may see that they have 2 out of 5 Liberty achievements and 1 out of 5 Honor.

I think that this Tradition overview of other empires should be available in Stellaris as well. I can now see: their Authority, Ethics, Civics, leader Traits, species Traits, and home world planet type. I should also have an idea of which Traditions they are pursuing. It will give you a sense of their priorities, as well as their relative level of Unity compared to yours.

I can't believe that only one person agrees with this. If I know the level of detail of species traits when opening communications with an empire, I would certainly have a rough idea of their traditions.
