Original Victoria worth going back to?

SO I played Victoria when it first came out a few years ago. I remember it being a bit buggy at first and you kinda got boned industrially if you didnt have access to a particular uncommon resource. I Don't think I played later patches though. Did HoI2 come out shortly after perhaps, not sure, but something drew my playtime away.

Then I made the fatal mistake of loaning it out to someone and entirely forgetting who that was when I came to wanting to play it again.

Seeing as Vicky2 is not due out next week, or indeed the week after... OMG its like forever dude... would I find it rewarding to track down a copy and play it again or does it feel quite dated now?

On a related point, and hoping someone from PI sees this post, any plans to launch Vicky I and supplements on Steam in advance of Vicky II, just to get us old timers interested again?

If you decide to play Victoria again I would strongly advise to get the expansion for it as well.

To be hones I never really found Victoria a fun game but at least the expansion made it overall better. The UI improvement alone is worth the money for me.

Thanks for the heads up. I vowed a couple years ago not to register for anything again unless I planned to use it a lot. My email address, home telephone number and credit card details have already been handed out to enough people across the globe for me to feel decidedly uncomfortable about it.

Maybe I will just have to find a local shop with an old copy.

Was that still the case in the later versions? I seemed to remeber being quite paralysed by it as Germany until I managed to fire the bismark event (which took several attempts).

Your right, I tried and failed to find it in any stores. But I decided to wait for Victoria II.

Original version (physical copy) is available on Amazon.com. It is hard to find elsewhere. I looked for Vic complete (physical copy) and could only find it on the British Amazon for quite a bit more than I was willing to pay.

Come to think of it, it would be nice if Vic were re-released just before Vic 2 came out.

Resources have gotten balanced much better, though it will still be hard to obtain machine parts to industrialise. That's intentional however (to reflect history) and it becomes easier as the game progresses.
However, migration and manpower/military are fundamentally broken as far as I'm concerned and are the main reason why I don't play Victoria often anymore.

Personally i'm leavign original Vicky alone whilst I wait for 2, played it tonnes and have EU3:HTTT and HOI3 to keep me occupied at current.

After seeing the dev diaries out I can say, without a doubt, that I can't wait for Vic2. I've played the original with the expansion, and playing an African minor or Asian minor was incredibly frustrating with "the old rules".

I'm particularly interested in seeing the artisan in action.

erm, isnt that just a different way to give your credit card details to another random and probably legally unaccountable set of people I have absolutely no idea who they are, where they are based, or what my course of redress might be if they screwed up/ripped me off?

I am not saying that they will, simply that I came to realise some years ago that the ease with which we all throw out rights to levy directly from our accounts is utterly crazy. I may be a technophobe in this regard but I feel we give far too much trust away too easily to companies online.

Protect your pin number with your life... but give your credit card details and even the new special extra digits to any company online you want to buy something for £3 from... erm nah.

Do what I did, KB. Get 2nd checking account with a new debit card and use it only for internet purchases. Keep only what you need in the account. I have a free accounts bank, so it doesn't cost me anything extra. Works good.

Victoria is awesome. I just played a game 1836-1910 as Sweden. I've conquered one single province but I've enjoyed the entire game. :rofl:

I loved turning Götaland into the Swedish Rhineland.
