Fairly high, actually. The main goal of just about every active mod is to port to Warband, at the moment.

There's also some great ones in production for Warband as well.

One mod to look out for though, is The Last Days of the Third Age (LotR)

It's only for .808 of the original game, but they're porting it to 1.011 of the original, and expect it to be out sometime soon.

(next couple of months)

hmm... we'll see.

Looking forward to this. Great game but can be better, loads of potential.

Warband is made to suit multiplayer so cavalry-infantry troops are "balanced" , that means cavalry troops = completely useless , specially horse archers are epic fail ( Mongols don't even get bows). There isn't a formation where you can order your horse archers to run around infantry using their bows while avoiding any conduct .

Combat wise the original is far superior : you can lance any bastard with a pike, one handed swords are not useless on a horseback , you don't have to run after stupid fleeing opponents , no "tax inefficiency" non sense just to name a few.

Also there are several super mods around like PoP for advanced players.

I've only played WB, so I can't really say. As for why they released a patched/expanded game as a seperate game... I can't say.

I think people who've played the original were the most disappointed with WB. Whenever anything is changed, some people get upset, a fact of life.

I only play single player games. I've never had any trouble with the combat system, but find it hard to survive on foot. Cavalry are too good at whacking you and dancing away, or one-shotting you with a couched lance.

4AD
, has there ever been good HA ai? I'm genuinely curious.

The Khergits (mongols) have been armed substantially better with the .126-27 patches, and have benefitted from the reduction of powerdraw requirement like all archers.

Well, if you give your companions a bow and a horse and rise their HR and HA skills above 6 at the time they hit 200 in bow skill they will be devastating . Same goes if you edit troops with the game editor .

Patches or no patches the Khergits are butchered by infantry troops (!!!!!) because there is no "run around / shoot arrows/ flee" option in the game ( did i mention that they DO NOT GET BOWS ? ) ; the whole idea of HAs riding straight against an infantry formation is just laughable .
The reason of having fast horses is that you do not have to come in physical contact with the enemy not that your horse will die easier this way.

For those uninterested in multiplayer WB = epic fail

I've found this thread right after I bought the bundle, which includes the original game and Warband. I had been under the impression that it was an expansion, not pretty much the same game with new features. Did I essentually buy the same game twice? (I'm mostly interested in the single-player.) Money spent aside, which of the two versions should I play? Are they both actively developed still or is Warband the current version that receives the updates?

Okay, so I'll play that one when the download finishes. :) I guess I could have saved about 25 Euro if I had done better research (and if some reviews had been more clear), but then again, if the game is as good as it promises to be, then supporting the developers is well worth it. I recall looking at M&B some five years ago, but for some reason never actually played it.
