I recently tried the demo for Mount & Blade on Steam, and liked it enough that I'd like to buy a copy, but I had a few questions:

1) I've read that the expansion, Warband, is a standalone game, but am not sure if it's multiplayer only or includes its' own singleplayer game. If it does include singleplayer, is it as expansive/comprehensive as the version in the original game?

2) I've heard that there is a large community of modders active for this game. Are the mods compatible with the Steam version of the game?

1.) Warband includes the Singleplayer game and is also much deeper than the original M&B. The original is only useful if you want to play the old Mods of the original, but there are also plenty of mods for Warband available by now too, and more coming.

2.) Can't really confirm it by my own experience, since I'm using the Gamersgate version. But as far as I know the mods should work fine, since modding is one of the main features of this game and Steam would be really stupid to cut that one out.

1. As said before its completely stand alone and much deeper then the original.

2. It shouldn't be any problem. AFAIK you only need the reg. key you get when purchasing from steam to dl the game from Taleworlds (if you are looking for avoiding steam completely). There is alot of mods for M&B, many of them converted/converting into Warband. Plus the multiplayer is awesome (especially some mods).

Don't forget to join a clan (shameless marketing) if you wan't to play mp, as that gives you as much as the game itself imho.

You can try Warband in a trial. You can play 30 days in the game before it freezes up.

Good OT question, was about to ask the same thing. I found out in the taleworlds forums that there are more mods for the original than for warband. Unless, of course, I missed a whole lot of information.

Yeah, but that might change as many modders are porting their mods to warband....

In my opinion the original should be removed from the digital shop, becouse if there is Warband the original is totally useless.
For example in steam during the discount period, the discounted mount & blade was the original, a my friend risk to buy it instead the Warband.

No, because there's still a lot of good mods for 1.011

What they should do is lower the price by say, five or ten dollars, so that people will know there's a significant difference.

agreed. IMO mount and blade original + prophesy of pelennor free mod is better than warband (though maybe there is a good warband mod now too, I dunno).

What are the odds of modders bringing their mods to Warband? Wouldn't they want to have their characters marry?:D

nah, they probably moved on to other projects. Too bad, but you can't fault them that the developers take forever to figure out the stuff they thought of months ago.

Fairly high, actually. The main goal of just about every active mod is to port to Warband, at the moment.

There's also some great ones in production for Warband as well.

One mod to look out for though, is The Last Days of the Third Age (LotR)

It's only for .808 of the original game, but they're porting it to 1.011 of the original, and expect it to be out sometime soon.

(next couple of months)
