Playing 1.6c vanilla as the Italians starting in 1939
I'm having problems in North africa. The organization in my units stationed in Tobruk remains at 0.. Is this because the province only has an infrastructure of 34? or prehaps because I'm upgrading the IC?

The enemy is stationed in the province directly to the south of Tobruk.. I dont know if that's a factor though.

No, you need to send supplies to North Africa (check your convoys).

Thanks man. I think I need to find some new tactic against the british fleet to do this though. Italy has a good sized fleet compared to the small area it has to patrol, but the british are powerful!

Forget the Italian Navy, send some naval bombers to south Italy.

useful tip?

Watch out for the same thing happening (0 org) if in allied territory. Current game as Italy I had units in Algiers (Vichy) which got tonked in battle 'cos Vichy had no supplies available in N. Africa.

You can supply themselves, but I think you end up supplying their units too.

Hopefully useful.......

If not, what exactly is the transport plane's purpose?

Transporting paratroops, I imagine.

Naval bombers are a must for the Italians!!!

Without them, you'll have a heck of a time getting the allies out of the Med/North Africa alone.

Yeah, it's been a while since I played HoI on account of the earlier versions being dreadful and all, but I find it enjoyable now :D I forgot to apply generals and field marshalls.. plus I clustered all my airplanes into one large group with a generic leader.. hehe. I got beat pretty bad.

I think all in all Italy isn't the easiest nation.. what do you think? Which major nation is most rewarding to play?

As bad as it sounds, I suggest going for Germany. You may lose but it is a good learning country. USA of course is the next obvious one, as is the USSR. I shy away from France and UK. After awhile and after you get the hang of the game, Italy is a fun game [just make sure to have a lot of naval bombers and fast cruisers] as are some other smaller nations. :eek:o

I have probably played a couple hundred hours of this game, but it's been a few years. The amount of details in the game is staggering. I love it. I'm playing as Germany now.. I like to play a country with a small territory rather than for example the UK. Seems like a lot of "work". It's fun to play a nation with cutting edge technology and a strong economy. Being the aggressor is also amusing.

I know I'm off topic again (might as well rename the thread to 'help DrOnline' hehe), but.. I read somewhere that there was a large penalty for stacking more than 5 fighters? can somebody elaborate on that for me? If so, does this penalty also apply to land and/or naval units? I know about for examply how generals are good for 9 units in their group and so on.

There are stacking penalties for all units. Leaders will eliminate or at the very least reduce these. For example, a field marshal can command 12 units on the attack or 24 on the defensive. Right below the leaders name there is information on how many units he can command.

Yeah the stacking penalty sucks, especially because the computer can walz away with his megastacks and isn't even bothered by issues such as range.

Naval bombers to Sardinia & Taranto and torpedo planes to Sicily. That's what I usually do myself. With these you can deny the British access to the middle part of the Mediterranean.

Italy even has some good fleet destroyer commanders like Ricci and Balbo.

Yeah, the Italian fleet can be sued successfully. Hit and run raids, and sinking British convoys. Use your planes to hit the large warships, builds cruisers and destroyers to get the convoys.

Stacking penalties are described in detail in Fiendix's indispensable Leader Effect's FAQ Download it, print it out, memorize it, cherish it, etc..

For details about how to handle the air stacking penalities for humans in 1.06c see Mediator's reponse in this thread. Human players get a 10% combat modifier penalty for every air unit above 4 in a battle while the AI does not.
