Ordered German game!

I am from the US but I couldn't wait for the English release. I just ordered the German version. I will let all the English speakers know how difficult it is (I don't speak german). I'm excited!

No worries, just get it refunded to the English version when it comes out. Just remember the offer is valid throughout November 2000 only.

I did the same thing I should be getting my game either today or tomorrow...but it still seems like forever...the longer I don't have it on my screen and see my ships destroying my enemies or my armies conquering the world I get more pumped up I have never looked forward to having a good time with something I don't even understand....it is going to be a hard and long fought battle, but once I master German, watch me Hey, if You want we could try some MP I live in Jersey but I probably won't be able to play a MP game until December since I am and architecture student and we sometimes don't even have enough time have dinner...it is exahusting, but I love it Enjoy the game. But sorry will be those countries that stop me from my devine right! once I really learn, they will face my wrath one by one

I did the same yesterday (from games24.de), but then my German is good enough.
I have taken the option to exchange it for the English version later on, however. Imagine replacing muy coffee-stained German manual for a brand-new English one.

I don't know the details involved in the exchange, but don't use email servers such as hotmail (the free ones), because apparently they don't work well with the servers at Paradox. i.e. emails don't arrive. Perhaps they didn't get your email. They should reply to you asap, so as long as you emailed through your ISP, just wait a while longer for a reply.

I have followed this game for many months. This could be the game I've been waiting for. It looks like Imp2 and Ghangis Khan rolled into one with excellent attention to detail. I speak only English (and some Polish) but I had to see the game and map in person even though I'll have difficult time with the translation. People you won't see a game like this again for a long time. Games of true statesmanship are rare. It takes a genius to put something like this together. Even without the exchange I would have still bought the german and the english versions. I'll just pray the english version will be there before christmas.

Glad to see you come out of the woodwork. Knowing Polish you are of Polish descent I presume?

Pleased you like the game so much. Though its not perfect, for me it was as close to my dream as you can currently get regarding warfare / strategy games on a grand scale which take into account ALL of Europe. This was ONLY achieved by the work / demands of the beta testers working through the tireless efforts of co-ordinator / lead programmer Johan and later Greven who I have the greatest respect and admiration for. As the months rolled along we formed a good relationship with him and he gave us quite a bit of leeway, trusting us not to screw the game up, altering the statistics to fit our own personal views of history.. basically to be as unbiased as possible. Either way it would all be checked and was debated by members of the team, thoroughly.

I've learnt quite a bit from these people and it was a pleasure to have had an input into the creative process of this game.

As with regards to your comment on games, a group of people who are this talented come together very rarely. Many different nationalities, all working in tandem to make a project work and work bloody well. Not to say that there weren't disagreements / clashes, but on the whole it was a great experience. Without the work of the beta team the level of detail in this game wouldn't have reached the depth and accuracy.. believe me. You guys won't know how fortunate you were in regards to this team. I hope you appreciate it. Hey, I'm not trying to beat myself off by writing this message however I think it was necessary to show some appreciation for the 'amateur' team behind the game.

I bloody well salute their work,

I second that !!

I only want to add a salute to Philippe Thibaut the creator of the original boardgame of the same name. IMHO EU the computer game is EU the way it always was supposed to be, or anyway the game without all the 'problems' the boardgame had.
In other words: as close to perfect you can get

I ordered it today ! The guys at Paradox frightened me when they said it could take several months before the English version would be released.

Hum ... A marketing operation, may be !? If the German version sales explode, it should be more easy to attract an US publisher

Hi Sappura,

Altough i haven't the Game, i think that Paradox and all the Beta testers have every reason to be proud of the baby (as i understand, the Betatest was 8 months long so it is a brilliant premature, how are the parents ? tired i suppose ?). And i'm quiet sure that the whole process was really enjoyable (too bad i missed the opportunity to become a BT). The only way for us to show you our appreciation will be to buy the game and to continue posting on this forum expressing our interest and our 'constructive' critics.

By the way, are the rumors true ? I heard that in Germany they are planning to erect statues to the glory of Paradox members, rename streets after Betatesters names (Sappura Strasse should be in Frankfurt-am-Oder of course).

Nope it's not coming in november unless a miracle happens.. The _offer_ is _valid_ through november only....

General* if you don't have a mail trhough your ISP I can relay it for you... You know where my email is =). But try to find a good mail account first or you will have these toubles for a long time, I can't relay for you all the time you know.. =)

German version sitting at the bottom of a WWI German 'milch cow' unterseeboote heading on its way now to Bunderespublic Massachusetts with EU, as per top priority of the Kriegsmarine and Bundeswehr (aka Wermacht). Das is gut. Gotta practice my German... I am kind of tired now, so gute nacht.

On the question of replacing the German version with an English one upon its release.

This is a commercial offer by the publisher at a time when there is not a release date for the English version let alone that it would be in stock.

Evidently, it would not be reasonable to make such an offer November-only and then not having to fulfill it if the English release takes place AFTER November 30th, the more so since the company that makes the offer is the one that is itself responsible for the release of the English version.

Therefore, the Paradox offer can only mean that you can subscribe to the replacement program during November 2000 only, but that you will have the possibility to actually go through with it when the Engish release is ready, WHENEVER that may be and of course also if that happens to be after November 30th.

They should however in their own interest have specified how long AFTER the release their offer will stand. Lacking this, they will have to allow a reasonable enough reaction delay to their customers - unless of course they plan on taking the initiative themselves, but I don't yet see Paradox sending out the English CD and manual without asking first if you're still interested.
After all, I suppose they'll want the German version back, and that'll cost the customer some money.

I wonder who is going to pay for all the sending to and fro ? It may turn out to be an expensive exchange (I pay 20 DM for delivery cost for the GErman game as it is)

Finally, since the offer emanated from the publisher withgout any further conditions imposed, it should be valid wherever you bought the German game (game24.de in my case).
