Oranje's Dutch AAR, part 8 1507-1509
1507 Jan-Apr
The Polish incursion into our home province can not be tolerated ofcourse and van Rossem's is closing in on them from the south, as well as another 9k Kleve detachment from Munster in the east.
January 16 van Rossem and his 18k army arrive in Holland province and confront the Poles. Next I know the Polish Cossacks (or whatever they call their horrible cavalry) are running circles around van Rossem's army,
which gets demoralized at just the sight of it. Actually we loose the battle in just a few days, and only van Rossem's abilities ensure that our casualties stay limited to just 4k men. van Rossem orderes an orderly retreat into Zeeland.
The Poles, obviously drunk with Victory, then march on The Hague and attack the much larger siege force there.
Luckily there's more cavalry present there then in van Rossem's army, and morale has recovered from the last storm attempt. Karel van Gelre orders every single allied camp to cover up battle preparations as much as possible but to prepare for a decisive battle nonetheless.
The horns of Karel van Gelre's Bataljon sound the attack as soon as the Poles come into sight.
A massive attack is launched on the Poles, coordinated by Karel's adjudants.
Ostrogski never dreamt his worst defeat would occur in The Netherlands (well almost), but he is soundly defeated this time. Well, he should have rested his forces of course, but maybe he hoped to find a siege army with only low moral. Bad luck

. The poor remains of his army quickly retreat to the east.
Februari 23 Another storm attempt on The Hague, some of the defending forces are killed, but the fortress still doesn't surrender. The next assault in april brings the defending garrison down to just 900 men and a few canons, one more time .......
May-Dec
May 1 The Hague finally surrenders to Karel.
It is then decided we should make peace with the enemy, and a peace treaty giving us control over Friesland and The Hague is quickly signed. Kustrin returns to Brandenburg government; Hainaut, Artois and Luxemburg return to Spanish rule.
May 7 The French make peace with Spain as well, gaining Franche-Comté and Roussillon provinces. Roussillon had fallen to France just days before. As the war had been started by Savoy, this peace treaty is only a separate peace; Scotland is still at war with France while another war now exists between Scotland and the other members of the French alliance. Spain also is still at war with Savoy + allies.
In September Spain agrees to peace with Savoy, and receives a handsome 250D in return.
In November a small Swedish expeditionary force lands in Scotland's Lothian province, and is quickly wiped out by the Scottish main army of 51k soldiers. Next the French seem to be shipping an army up north.
1508
We promote another official in Flanders, further strengthening our economy. This promotion will bring in some extra revenue and decrease the revolt risk.
In the beginning of the year the French beat the Scots in Lothian, heavily against the odds, and they lay siege to Edinborough, while the Scots flee north.
After some time the French get assistance from another smal Swedish contingent, but even combined, the 8k siege force is not big enough to constitute a serious threat for the Edinborough fortress.
In July the Treaty of Tordesillas between Portugal and Spain is ratified by the Holy Father, which we deem an unnecessary and unwarranted act. This treaty will allow the Spanish and Portuguese to take over any other catholic nations' colonies in the new world without even declaring war. A shameless treaty indeed!
In September Spain has apparently messed up their relations with another new tribe in the America's and declares war on the Inca.
The Netherlands send another 4 merchants to the market in Constantinopel / Istanbul.
1509
We recruite a modest additional reinforcement for the Dutch army, 1.000 Cavalarists and our first 10 canons.
Then we receive word that there is much enthousiasm for the army among the people; another 5.500 Infanterists and 1.100 Cavalarists have volunteered for the army and have been graciously equiped by private commercial interests. Great!
Another Swedish army comes to the aid of the siege army in Lothian, bringing the total number of men available to 14k, which now start a serious siege.
A declaration of war by the Teutonic Order against Pskov is strangely followed by a white peace again just one month later; apparently the TO misjudged the strength of the enemy.
In july the Scottish main army has finally recovered from its earlier defeat against the French and attacks the siege army near Edinborough, while Navarra reinforcements are making their way ashore.
The Scots defeat all intruders to the last man, they've still got 30k men left.
Then Savoy and Scotland make peace, leaving just France at war with the Scots.
In December the French have landed another 10k army in Scotland.
Victory Points at the end of the year read:
1. The Netherlands 269 (157 military, 74 diplomatic)
2. Spain 250 (157 mil, 46 dipl)
3. France (145 mil, 54 economic)
4. Turkey 95 (48 military)
