I really appreciate y'all's decision to make DH very modularized with a base optimized for porting. However, now that DH is a thing itself rather than just a target for porting from the other HoI2 platforms, it would be cool if there were some way to have a mod inherit files from DH Full or Lite (or any arbitrary mod) rather than the base directory.

Im sorry, i dont quite understand what you want?

In mods/ folder you have vanilla DH full and vanilla DH Light, if you want to mod each one just make a copy, rename it and do whatever you want.

Is that what you wanted?

It's possible to do things that way, but it's still problematic: if a DH update changes files in DH Full or Lite, then the mod doesn't get that upgrade, the end user has to manually delete the mod and then reperform the mod installation to get the benefits of the update.

What I would like is if a mod could have a config file or something which could say BASEDIR=Mods/Darkest Hour Full, and the engine would know to use that as a base rather than the root directory.

Not really possible as Darkest Hour Full/Light use many files from base game folder. The best thing to do is what DanubianCossak said - copy the mod you like to use as a base into a new folder.

It is possible to scrap completely Base/light and merge DH full into the base folder, so every mod to use DH full as a base, but I'm not sure this is worthed as many mods still use the old map and mods is what makes the game good.
