I know that the wars in Japan usually wrap themselves up absurdly quickly (though I don't know how the coming patch will change that), but I was going through the Japanese tags and noticed there are four daimyo that are only created via event (or at other start dates): Hojo, Chosokabe, Akamatsu, and Mori. Your options are to release them for some bonuses or to instead fight some rebels and add their core to the province.

Because the event gives them cores, you can release them and play as them after spawning the rebels. I think it would be more in line with current design ideas to allow the player a third option in the events themselves to play as them though (though perhaps with a buff or something so it's physically possible to survive because having tried it myrself, it does leave you as a minnow surrounded by sharks).

This entire thread is just because I like Hojo's color and want to be able to use it with the new Japan color thing.

Agree. And in addition to this, I think it may make more sense that if you unify Japan before certain admin-tech or "proper" preparations, you will get a regular disaster that may break you down if you don't manage it well. In this "Inner Conflicts as Shogunate", we can then incorperate more events and new daimyo tags such as the Toyotomi clan.

This feels like it could be a good solution to the fact Japan consolidates way too quickly. Usually it's only down to 2-3 clans before Oda Nobunaga was even born irl. Something like this could also change the 1444 map as various daimyo were added to the 1444 map before they really had their time in spotlight irl because of basically fanservice on the devs' part. (IE Tokugawa is a starting nation 123 years before it was properly founded and the Oda clan were a vassal of the Shiba clan until a few years into the game and didn't fully control their one province until the 1470s)

Sounds good. I think I shall further add that some if possible, the disaster may be avoided by having one or two vassal daimyo in Japan home isle (large enough maybe). With some additional modifier/effect the shogunate can gain from them (through a buffed shogunate reform and a new version crusader japan reform if they choose to be). Which add with the historical fact that the Tokugawa shogunate were forced to remain some of the daimyo throughout its history, who eventually backed the rebels who overthrown the last Shogunate in the Meiji Restoration.
