OPM pope.JPG

Hello,

As you can see, The papal State is a OPM, protestant nation.
(I have no idea how it became protestant)

It's been well over 70 years now (1550 - 1620), and I checked the name of the pope and his age several times.
He died at least 2 times now, maybe even more, yet there is 0 change in the Curia.
The papal state and other nations don't invest Influence, no one gets excommunicated, and no new Curia controller gets elected.

There's two questions here:

1) How do I solve this so there are new Curia elections.
2) How do I reinstate this in this game or new games so I can get and stay Curia controller forever? :)

Cheers!

Ironman? Modded?

Doesn't really make sense for them to have flipped Orthodox unless all their cores were converted while they did not exist as an independent tag, which we can see in the screenshot is not the case. Who are you playing as?

It's an Ironman save, I'm playing as Burgundy and I'm now the Emperor if that matters.
I got rid of all CoR, the protestant thing might have been from one?

The save wasn't played for a while so I'm not entirely sure anymore what I did back then, but I know I was trying to kill the pope to get elected.
There was no new election after I fully annexed the papal state and then released Rome with the event.
I might have given the other papal state provinces I owned, to Byz, who was my vassal at the time, to not lose them in case the event happened.
Would Byz have something to do with that?

I don't recall every step I took and a lot of mechanics are still new to me.
Just trying to figure out how this happened, so I can see if I can be perma Curia if I was the Curia before the pope became Orthodox.

You could try annexing him and releasing through event
Not sure if this will work but it's the best shot you'll have
That's the last thing that happened to the papal state before it got like this.
No other nation ever annexed them afterwards.

It's worth a shot but I have very good relations with him now, which combined with not investing my influence, let's me pick up all those perks.
On the other hand I can't ever become Curia and nothing happens with the Council of Trent right now.

It's also an Ironman, so unless I scum save I have to risk my relations and AE.

Did you use Byzantium as vassal or junior partner? Maybe it's some kind of bug with event https://eu4.paradoxwikis.com/Purple...triarchate_of_Constantinople_Heals_The_Schism but there should be more orthodox nations in the world if it fired
Byz was a vassal at the time, do vassals even complete missions on their own or convert provinces on their own?

The event to return the Papal state also fires right after annexing, no?
So there was no time for me or Byz to convert Rome before the event triggers?

Ok, so I did some digging in my browser history and I think I tried this strat before I stopped playing the save, hence I didn't remember correctly.

Perma Curia Strat

Seems the only thing that didn't work was killing the pope to make sure I was Curia Controller.
Making sure no elections happen after pope dies, does seem to work.

I'll have to do some more testing in a non Ironman game to see what is possible and not.

It would seem, that accepting rebel demands (3:18 mark in video) failed to spawn a new election, maybe that was patched after this video was released?

I'll try this strat again sometime soon and update here.

Also, note to self: Delete your browser history bruh...

Vassals can complete missions and convert.
To have event you need to own Rome and be catholic so I think it could fire for you after annexing Byzantium. Byzantium should complete most of their missions to trigger it but I see that event has one more effect "Change religion of The Papal State to Catholic" Maybe after this event they have different government and are able to convert. It's just guessing how it could happen
