I can't quite get the love for HOI4. Something seems to be missing but I can't quite say what it is. Perhaps the game doesn't seem to have a soul? I loved HOI2, I loved the different research options, the challenge, the little details.
HOI3 was very hard to get into, too much to manage without really adding to gameplay. One of the things I did like a lot about HOI3 was the map. HOI4 has been a real let down for me in this area. I don't like the map, and I don't like the unit counters. I like the how production has been handled in HOI4 and also the division designer.
However there are many negatives. Air forces are too abstract, it's hard to tell what your air force is doing or if it's being effective. It's also difficult to give orders, and the air UI obscures most of the map.
The UI is far too clunky.
No air commanders, no divisional commanders, no OOB.
What on earth has happened to trade? and sorry but securing fuel supplies was one of the most inportant aspects of WW2. In this game fuel just doesn't matter. The game has been too streamlined to the point where it just doesn't feel like a WW2 grand strategy game any more.
