As well as if you can force the boys in the VD-yard to go to battle again if the situation gets rough :D

Historically iirc out of four polish cruisers one was sunk, two escaped to England (one after almost being captured by SU in a baltic state port) and on the fourth my book wasn't clear (iirc still) on it's fate.

Poland had no cruisers at september 39 , we received two light cruisers from brits at 1943 or 1944.
In sept'39 we had a few destroyers, a few subs, one large minelayer and some minor ships (like minesweepers).
All modern destroyers (built in france) except one old-one were evacuated to england shortly before 1 sept. The old-one after short artillery duel with german's destroyers was sunk by stuka's in port. As for the subs, one called "Orze³" or "Eagle" break blocade in the Sund and escaped to England.
Not a single destroyer or sub was captured by germans.

Sorry. Cruisers, destroyers.. naval terminology isn't my forte, even in my native language, much less so in english..

Evacuated before Sept. 1 you say? I'll have to look that one up :)

Well rom what I know the fleets in the game could either be put under your controle when you capture their coutrny adn force them to annex, which means their either yours, or they sink/ scutal thier ships, beacuse when Germany ran over France, and Germany forced France to get in peace talks, and Vichy France was forced or which ever the English PM and his war office staff thought that Germany would get a good potion of French Battlships and other ships, which were in the Indian occean area I belive and the UK sent thier fleet donw thier to sink the French ships so taht the Germans couldnt get those ships as part of the deal.

Quite amusing really wonder if thats in the game at all would be lieka random factor on what happens to the Fleets!!

But thats only my gues!

Also I didnt think Poland had an Airforce in them days only Army maybe jsuta small navy of a few ships but thast all, but then again its HoI any thing can come posible in that lol..

of course they had. some designs were even quite "modern" and were exported to countries like switzerland and turkey. only the numbers were rather low...

Should I felt offended? ;) :p

Boy, boy, boy.......no airforce? where did you get it from?

we had:

PZL P11 - these are fighters, (btw: not very good)
PZL "Karaœ" - these are light bombers (also not very impresive)
PZL P37 "£os" - these are medium bombers (very good and modern design.....i dare to say better than German He-111 )

and many other designs like observations planes comunications planes.

What is interesting: all planes we had were polish designs.

Did you ever heard about polish pilots in battle of britain.......I assume you don't .......thats a pity because they were defending your country....

As for the navy ..i just wrote it a few post above.....we have few destroyers and a few subs

Many of those ships after sept39 were defending your pitiful Isles :p

aha..and we had also a few small liners.....they served as troops transportation ships, e.g "Sobieski"

Hey, thanks EUFan. I had spent the last 5 minutes lamenting the fact I couldn't find my book on the Polish Air Force between the Wars. Your summary concurs with what I remember of the situation from my reading.

It would have annoyed me all day if no one had answered and I couldn't find the info.:)

Cheers,
Duritz.

Great AAR,

but I would like to comment on the comparison of body count. It's like comparing apples and peers,

1) are boundary conditions for both comparisons comparable?Let's suppose Germany develops excellent dive bombers but has to use bad commanders on the Polisch front (due to other priorities).

2) only then you can run different simulations to look for the algorithm variability... this should be big enough...you just can't predetermine a wars outcome.

IMHO the difference of the comparision can be big (is more a question of statistics), but biggest parameter remain boundary conditions =

f.e. ultimate support for campaign = 20.000-40.000 casualties
bad planning, no risks taken = 50.000-70.000 casualties
bad planning, lots of risks taken = 20.000-100.000 casualties

Some parameters will influence the mean value of casualties and other parameters will influence the variability of the outcome.

Look at the German Ardennes offensive, that was a gamble...

Lots of people (me included) are POed about Master of Orion 3, since they had some really awesome ideas that were cut along the way. If I hadn't known about the plans to do it I wouldn't have missed it, but now I'll always (maybe) will think that something is missing, that they could have done better (not likely considering how much time they have spent on it already)

Paradox instead works more loosely, tells us that they are going to do a great game, but saves the specifics until they have them down pat, which means you can trust them to deliver.

It might not seem like a big issue, but in the end I think it is good policy to do it this way.

[/OT]

I looked it up, Poland had four destroyers, Blyskawica, Grom, Byrza and Wicher. Wichers engines were damaged before the start of the war and it was sunk by german air in harbor together with the minelayer Gryf in september 3.

The other three destroyers left harbor in august 30 and escaped safely to England. Blyskawica survived the war and is a well kept museal ship in Gdynia. Grom was sunk in may '40 by german air near Narvik. Burza was probably sunk in february '40 by a sub on the atlantic. (My book is slightly ambigious on the subject).

Out of five submarines Sep, Rys, and Zbik were interned in Sweden. Wilk and Otzel escaped to England. (And Otzels escape would make a great movie, if anyone could believe in it :))
