Northern Front Advances 14.7.1942-15.7.1942

Though being severely crippled, 20. Infanteriedivision (mot) is sent to Stratton to cut the way that retreating troops had reopened. It was important to keep that pocket closed and preventing the frontline in the south from collapsing.

Meanwhile, troop where ordered to move to Rockland and repelled the American attack here before immediately attacking Monson to pin down the retreating troops in the pocket.

(The Combat Progress Marker is turned into the wrong direction. The 79% are attack-progress on Monson, not defense!)

The Battle of Monson in detail.

At July, 14th, 19:00, the Battle of Stratton was won, counting 96 KIAs on the Wehrmacht-side and 178 KIA for the US-Army.
The entire night, the troops advanced to finally reach Stratton in the early morning-hours.

Reinforcements arrive from Continental Europe and are soon after ordered to commence attacks to the north to link up with the troops on the northern front.

I think it's slowly going your way, though it's been a hard initial slog. Your reinforcements from Europe will wreak havoc in the American rear when they break out of the thinly-guarded Boston perimeter.

Southern Front advances, 15.7.1942-24.7.1942

While Northern command is struggling to maintain the pocket of Monson and to prevent escape, the south is facing less resistance after the surprise landing of Boston. Troops are ordered to fight their way to the north to link up with the northern part of the Landing Force and to relief the strained supplylines.

233. Panzergrenadierdivision tries to fight its way from Portland to Manchester, supported from the armored divisions in the south and while being under american attack themselves.
The Panzergrenadiers are finally ordered to focus on defense rather than continuing their attack, while the Panzerdivisions push from the south.

The battle of Manchaster takes more than a week before it is finally decided in favour of the Germans. The front is finally linked and a division in Portsmouth is cut of in a pocket and has to surrender.


Northern Front advances, 17.7.1942-18.7.1942

In the north, the situation looked more grim after the troops failed to destroy the Monson-Pocket at first attempt.
Panzer-divisions are sent to Stratton to prevent the American retreat, while Monson is under continuous attack from several sides.

With a good spot of luck and the iron determination of the troops holding the front, Stratton can be held long enough to seriously weaken the battles in Monson, who are now also under sustained heavy air attack that significantly increased the speed of this second battle.

Within 3 days, the last frontline-divisions in Monson crumbles. Unable to bring more troops to the front, the Americans are not prepared for the quick rush of Panzers and Halftracks behind their lines. Their last defensive positions are ravaged, most soldiers either surrender, retreat into the woods to continue resistance or try to flee into local villages, pretending to be civilians.
