Hello everyone,

I have kept up with the dev diaries and to a degree with this forum for quite some time although I havnt been much of a poster. So I apologize if this has been discussed already. I was just curious if people had an interest in this idea.

Should the German player in HOI 4 be able to choose their strategic goals for Operation Barbarossa? I feel like this could allow for interesting choices and outcomes. First off I feel the choices should be either total obliteration as chosen by the Third Reich in reality, while the alternative could be one of liberation. The liberation choice would be a war goal of installing fascist puppet leaders in Ukraine, Belorussian, and the Baltic States.

These choices could be tied to modifiers. Total Obliteration may increase unit organization or perhaps unity for Germany, or party support. While Liberation could create a modifier that would in a sense possibly trigger civil war states with the regions concerned. Troops that would be on the side of Germany fighting the USSR forces would spawn either within USSR controlled or German controlled areas of the regions involved. When the war would end those states would then hold their borders as puppets and the USSR would lose a number of republics from its union. Also Germany would gain the remaining territory of Poland that was partitioned earlier with the USSR.

What do you guys think?

Historically I think it was a strategic misstep of the Third Reich to not signal "good intentions" to the disenfranchised people of these areas in order to garner support. Instead destruction of the largest scale was visited in these regions which must have furthered the resolve of the USSR and solidified that the great patriotic war was a war for survival. Also the barbaric war crimes committed did nothing to the strategic benefit of the Axis forces and instead most likely only increased partisan resistance efforts and weakened supply lines.

Just a note, we are all aware of the conduct during the war, but don't make mention of them in posts as the thread will be locked pretty quickly.

I am not sure this will be an option, though you may be able to create puppet states this will not provide any true benefit to the player apart from having an AI nation to try to help with partisan issues.

Pdx is very careful not to have an game mechanics that could be used to simulate any forbidden issues. You will probably we able to have the occupation policy from lenient to harsh but that is all.

It will be a fight to the death between Germany and the USSR. Unless they and another bitter peace event.
