Open or Closed Beta

I've got beta 5 done, I just need to know whether we are going to do a closed beta (which I hate), like the AoN guys are doing, or an open beta (which I like), where anyone can download the scenario, suggest stuff and play around with it and the events.

I was going to release it as an open beta like I have done before, but an e-mail from Mormegil with the revolters in it suggested he wanted to go closed. What does everybody else want?

Mormegil has a point; too much hype is bad, all the enthusiasm might run out, and since we don't have events finished yet there's no point in letting people test it other than just to let them. If we are going to hold it back, let's wait until the random events are done.

Yeah, no reason to have closed since we have no events or anything other than cosmetic alterations to the world finished. Let it be open. When we have the random events added and eventually the regular events we'll have it close it to members only is good IMO.

Ok here is my suggestion. We sent to all of our members, play it a while (2 days maybe?) and then we will release it. WE can go threw a few suggestions quick during that time and dont have to ask Miller about the map. Ok?

We should first make sure that the changes to 5 and the updates/monarch/hard code fixes work before we send it all over the place and prove that we screwed up...

The best is to have a secret place there you can download it and then we go puplic with it. But Miller decide.

If i may give my opinion on the issue....(its rhetorical,i'll give it anyway ).
The beta should be open.I understand the reasoning concerning the events,but an open beta will advane the project.If you check on the Aon project,you'll see it is dying off.Too much sexrecy sends the people away.
Personally,i am already testing the AoN scenario and think that it is great,but the people who dont,are bored and stop paying any attention.
On the other hand,the IFU project is evolving in a mad pace.That is because the beta is open...Imagine half of the people(including me)have the german version they cant even understand,but dont complain.They get involved,creating events and monarch lists,even countries.
I think it is obvious the beta should be open.It will keep the [roject alive and kicking(pardon the language).

Here's a solution: Keep the beta closed until we get the unlimited time patch working and until we get bugs sorted out, maybe a bit longer to throw in as many events as possible.

We can realese it when we get the map done.

Then we can also realese it when all our historical events between 1991-2002 is done.

If we're changing the map, it should be a surprise, that would be better, so closed. Otherwise, have it open for people you are sure will do well with it, like AoN people. They should be able to point out flaws we miss.

I say that first we finish the map and realese as beta 5.

Then maybe we can close it.

I still choose inward perfection till it is achieved for beta 5 then release it. Then beta 6 will be worked on.
