The early game pace in the beta patch is too slow due to the high AE decay. The new economy make every one too poor to afford good advisers, that lead to even less thing to do due to lacking of Monarch point. The diplo-annex cost make the MP problem more severe.

I think removing the nationalism from direct conquest and give independent rebel to diplo-annexation that can be ease by diplo-point is more realistic and interesting.

AE and nationalism should be very low early game since the idea of nation state and balance of power didn't not solidify yet. The game should be easy in the early game, but become harder as the game progress, not super tedious and boring in the early game while become a one vs world game in the later part.

The game gets easier later on because nations and players snow ball. It should be hard through out. I'm in favor of the rebels and nationalism created by conquest right now. That makes a lot of sense to me.

If vasselisation needs any fix right now, we should be seeing high rebels during the short annexation period. Something that can be reduced with diplomatic reputation so that can be relevant to annexing again. Something that stops the annexing process if the rebels are present forcing you to oversee the process more careful. Something your neighbors can try to make worse by supporting rebels.

When you save a game, ironman or local, you get taken back to the save game list instead of the main menu. On top of that, you can't hit esc to get out of the save game list UI, which leads to unnecessary clicking. I don't remember this behavior being in 1.5, and only noticed it when 1.6 came out, so it's a functional regression.

Playing 1.6.1.3. Seeing a strange thing with the unit maintenance and replenishment. Sometimes it's cheaper to have unit maintenance set at around 50% or some other middle number than at 0% for whatever reason, and the unit reinforcement rate doesn't seem consistent other than sometimes becoming ludicrously expensive for whatever reason. Or that it scales with your yearly income in a bad way. Like had only a few thousand men needed to replenish out of a nearly 300k manpower pool as Byzantium and my additional reinforcement monthly cost was something like 35+ ducats for under 1000 men reaching my armies per month since I wasn't at full maintenance in peacetime.

The westernization in its current state also seems completely broken and not worth it at all. I had a 6/5/6 ruler as Byzantium with 100 power projection and decided to westernize, but then realized that it will only take 1/1/1 power per month no matter what, so it would take like 50 years to westernize. It no longer makes sense for the big advisor cost penalty while westernizing since the rate is static no matter what your current monarch points are. You're also no longer put in the western tech group until it's finally finished, unlike before. Had to give up my Byzantine game since 50 years of +10 revolt risk rebels and the tanking of my economy due to revolt risk everywhere reduced a full ~300k manpower pool to 0 about 20 years in due to the sheer amount of rebels I was getting since I had so many provinces (had all of Italy, Balkans, Arabia, Persia, Georgia, North Africa up to Algeria). Big countries like Russia, the only nation to historically westernize during the game, would find westernization virtually impossible with how its implemented currently. The anti-westernization events are basically unchanged also, taking away 120 westernization points unless you take the penalty despite the massive nerf to westernization rate.

If I was aware of westernization in its current implementation I would never have started it since it was what literally killed my Byzantium game. It just feels broken.

This is not new to the beta, reinforcement costs have been borked since 1.6.0.0.

It used to be that no coalitions formed until AE reached 50, at which point you were already strong enough to stomp minor nations around you with ease. In other words, AE/coalition are at the best state since 1.0 in my opinion. Thank you for restoring my faith with the game.

Can someone confirm whether coalitions form at different levels of AE?

In my experience in v1.5, v1.6, and v1.6.1 coalitions could start forming before even 20 AE and often by the time you reached 30 depending on their relations with you, so I'm not sure what "50 AE" is supposed to related to.

Is poster mixing up some terms and/or misunderstanding game mechanics or was there a change to coalition formation that wasn't obvious in the patch-notes (either for v1.6, the hotfix, or the betas)?

I am not getting 1.6.1.4 from Steam. Even though it says in the dlc tab I am getting the latest beta patch, and 1.6.1.4

After updating it stays in the main menu as 1.6.1.3 (4ccc)

I removed the beta opt in, then added it again. Still 1.6.1.3

Have you ever given a thought that there could be several different versions between 1.0 and 1.5 which I was referring to, when I mentioned that the coalition works best in this version since 1.0?

Considering that you're posting in the v1.6.1.4 Open Beta thread, its logical to assume that you were referring to something that wasn't existing in the original v1.6 patch.

Especially when you said:
In other words, AE/coalition are at the best state since 1.0 in my opinion. Thank you for restoring my faith with the game.

Referring to changes made several months ago in the present patch thread seemed unlikely.

EDIT: thank you for the clarification though, if you hadn't responded so quickly I likely would've spent half an hour puzzling over the patch notes seeing if I'd missed something.

Steam not delivering 1.6.1.4 beta patch

I am not getting the 1.6.1.4 patch. I tried opting out of the patch then back in, even though it says 1.6.1.4 beta in the patch tab Steam does not update EU4 to it.

Updated with a fix for an annoying crash.

Patchnotes:
-----------
- Fixed tooltipcrash in subjectview

Where are the patch notes for 1.6.1.2 & 1.6.1.3? I can't find them and I would like to see what was changed in those, before trying the beta.

Having something like this for the open beta with a full list would be nice, so that we can see all the changes: (see "Show Spolier" in the link)
