LOL. Oops.

I'm concious again...I decided to try the suggestion to try the beer:BB ratio thing, and can that ever make you aggressive. I wonder, in the sober light of morning, if perhaps I should free a few nations to lower that BB a bit...relations are pretty frosty out there.:)

Yeah. I'll try to keep them around. I can hardly wait for the Reformation so I can up my moslem tollerance. Right now I have to keep it a little on the low side (especially entering year 4 of a BB war vs. Denmark, Novgorod, Papal States, Kleeves, Cologne, Hesse and Gelre. BastAARds) so Angora and Anatlya are in frequent revolt and chewing up my income to rebuild after fighting the rebels.

What I meant was that I seriously hope that our BB-score isn't that high already....

Meanwhile, the 'B' Team is waiting on the English patch so Rictus can start.

I'd like to propose that Rictus and Storey switch spots so we can get the show on the road.

Gentlemen?

So am I to switch which Rictus? I have the patch so I can start but how about it Rictus, MrT?

You are perfectly welcome to post here...anyone can. Please feel free to join in the free-for all.

Well, my reign is over and I'll be forwarding the files in a few minutes. I accidentally slipped back to "Worse than scum" reputation. :(

That was a blast! I hope my successors enjoy themselves. I'm not sure that there are many countries who'd want to tangle with us now...:D

I don't think it will kill us to wait until Monday in case the UK patch goes up at that point.

LD - I don't suppose you could use your mod pipeline to get a sense from Patric if it's still "any day" status or if we're looking at a prolongued wait?..

Sorry, I know as much as the next guy about it's release. I would say wait until Monday at the latest, unless Rictus comes online and agrees to switch. We shouldn't fall too far behind.

You know, MrT, if you have run up our A-Team BB to ridiculous levels, I might have to rectify that situation once I take power. I might have to be the "Good" doge my first time around.

"What, you don't like rule under Venice?"

"No, we don't. You guys stink."

"Well, why didn't you bloody well say so? Here, go be your own country again. And you be your own country. And you. And you too. Oh, and of course, you Ottomans deserve your own nation state, so there you go again."

"Gee, thanks!"

"Oh, and here. Have a few state gifts, just to help you get started. Even though I had to take 10 loans to do it, I want my new brother countries to get started on a good foot."

Of course, I will only be doing this to allow the B-Team to catch up to us in terms of land area. :D

Well, as it stands I see no reason to worry. As I said, I accidentally slipped down to "worse than dishonourable scum " from my previous glorified position as "Hated throught the entire world" and that's roughly where I like to be during the first 100-150 years. It relieves you of the need to get a lot of CBs (since everyone else is nice enough to DOW you) without getting completely ganged up on. The only time I was in a bit of trouble I just toughed it out, was patient, and after about 5 years of contant pressure I was fine.

France has done a bit of annexing too and ought to draw its own fair share of attention. I left shawng1 in a nice cosy position with +3 stab, tons of cash, lots of turf, great MP, a booming economy, a protected northern flank, and decent armies. It'll be interesting to see where he goes since his first reign is only about 4 years or something. I fully expect that we will be DOWed by someone soon, but we have more than enough resources to defend against anyone and I managed to consolidate the holdings to resolve one little problem that was hamstringing me earlier...as you will read.

What I think we really need is the Reformation - to give us another religious slider to play with. It was no picnic trying to balance Catholc, Orthodox and Moslem sliders when you've got provinces with all three types and you're at the tail end of a 5 or 6 year war.

One really nice thing about Venice is the Naval quality which helped immeasurably. Aragon, Castile, England, et al might have more troops, but once you sink their entire navies it no longer matters. I also did 3 DP adjustments to make us significantly stronger on land so now we can go toe-to-toe with most of the big boys.

When I died we were #2 on the VP list, only slightly behind the Timurids who'd had the 600 VP (due to the "Disintegration of the Timurid Empire" event so they don't really count ;)) and #3 was a long way behind.

I think our future doges will find themselves wondering who to kill or subjugate next, rather than worrying about who's coming after them...

I made the decision conciously since there are quite a few shortish reigns coming up and I could foresee doges being a little reluctant to initiate war on a grand scale knowing that they'd never get the chance to see it through. Besides, ol' Tomasso is a blodd-thirsty bastard. ;)

Um... MrT? Isn't this the sort of detail you should be revealing in your AAR rather than just splurging it out in a summary like this? I have to say, it kinda spoils the fun of finding out as the AAR unfolds...

Nah. I've got something entirely different in mind for what/how I'm going to write it. Nothing in the above will affect that and you'll either enjoy it (or not) on its own merrits...;)

Far, far, far from it. If I'd sat mostly on my *ss for 30-someodd years, making the odd forray here and there, we'd be faced with that Ottoman--then-Austria-then-Italian-then-Ottoman never-ending war-cycling trouble that I almost always see as the AI's lot during the GCs I play. Venice usually ends up spending 400 years fighting for its life...

This way future generations should be able to confidently undertake almost anything they want, safe in the knowledge that they won't be screwing it up for their successors. Keep in mind that BB is only dangerous if you're too weak to hold off the enemy and you end up completely on the defensive...something that Peter Ebbesen's "World Conquest" AAR demonstrates admirably. BB is, in my mind, something to be desired rather than feared, particularly as the BB point hits you take in defensive wars are half those you take in offensive wars.

Of course it's not too late if you want me to re-play it in "peace-monger" mode since we don't want to get too far ahead of the B-Team thread.

Can anyone tell me whether Monday is a holiday in the UK or Sweden? If not, there's some hope that we may see the patch appear sometime during the day to let you guys get started. Otherwise I think doing the "swap" would be a good idea...

Unfortunately, it's not a holdiday in the UK...but I suppose that means the patch might be released, which'll allow us to really get started...which is nice, especially as I expect to recieve the files soon, as you've obviously passed them on to Shawng1...
