MrT, this is horribly off topic, but do you know if Smithwicks is sold in the US. One of my best friends is a Guiness fiend, and this might be just the ticket to get him to try something new.
From what I've heard it can be found on tap in the odd bar or restaurant in the States. I'm not sure if you have specialty liquor stores that carry imported beers, like us. I have a friend in Tampa Bay who loves to drink Tennents, a Scottish brew which is my import beer of choice. Everytime he flies up he insists we visit a couple of select bars that sell it. He claims it isn't sold south of the border.

BTW, I just noticed MrT beat me to the punch with an answer.

I will have to admit to knowing very little about the various beers one can find in the world or even in that great frozen land called Canada. However if you want to talk about wine then I'm your man!:)

Joe

Try this one then, Joe...it's one of my current favourites and is very cheap (it's all of $7.00 Canadian and stacks up very well against $15.00-$20.00 bottles).

Suhindol Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon (Bulgaria). IIRC it's made in one of the Boyar estates and is quite palettable after 30-40 minutes breathing. See if you can lay your hands on a '96 or '97 which were better than the '98 that I've been seeing in the stores recently.

BTW, SM. Where ever your friend gets his Guinness is likely to be a place where he could get Smithwicks - unless he's buying that canned stuff with the CO2 cannister.

Joe,

The part of Minnesota I grew up in was, to be honest, by the original treaty part of what became Canada...but I'm not Canadian, and I made the comment about you claiming Bud to be beer. :p

As for wine, well if there's NOTHING else on the list, Napa Valley will do.:p

<shudders> No way, not the canned stuff. Even we have standards! :D

Hmmm... our local Irish pub doesn't have Smithwicks, or they are holding out on us. Looks like we are going to go on a quest for beer.

So, this is the beer thread? I should feel very much at home, then. :D I can't say I've even heard about Smithwick's. :( I'm surely missing out on something here.

I must also say I love Guinness, but it's awfully expensive up here, so I usually stick with the Norwegian lager. Considering the purity of Norwegian water, we have some lovely beers up here. :) Dunno if they're exported, though. Selling Norwegian beer in other places (like Germany, Denmark, Britain) would be a bit like hawking ice on the North Pole...

Lol, tennents. Whenever one sees a begger (or a 'bum' to the colonials) in the street, he will have one of two drinks in hand.

1. Super Kestral
2. Tennents

This, it has been widely accepted that only tramps drink Tennents (and pikeys, but that's another story altogether) Thus, to be seen in a favourable social light, one avoids the Tennents :D

Does he hav a tendency to wear old, poor clothing (preferably brown), multi-layered. a hat, shoes with holes in them, and push a shopping trolley filled wiht assorted goods (empty cans of Tennents a must), mumble to himslef and sleep on the streets, only rousing himself from his personal insanity to shout spittle-covered abuse at passersby? :D:D:D

Hey. Not sure about his friend, but that's a remarkably accurate description of LD!:D:D:D:D:D

Err...about that collaborative Venice AAR project...

I have only two more posts to go before I complete my reign so I'll hold off a little bit for LD to catch up (it's hard to post quickly when you're pushing that shopping cart ;)) and also in hopes that Ubisoft can get their act together on the 1.05 update. IIRC we're going to grind to a halt soon unless they do or we do some more reign-swapping. Let's cross our fingers...

MrT is currently posting, he is second on the list.
I've got the files, and i'm fourth, but I can't play until I get the *£$&*^% patch.

Shawng1 has finished playing the 3rd Doge and the files are with Timmy who's waiting for the Ubisoft patch. On the B-Team side LD's still reloading...err...playing and then will be handing off to Rictus who is in a similar situation, meaning that the game will be stalled until Ubi approves their patch (3 of 4 countries approved as of the end of last week, according to Patrik) with only Spain still to come.

Rather than mess around endlessly with swapping doges, I'm inclined to give Ubi a few days, let LD post at his leisure, and I'll post my last two instalments slowly or stretch them into three. I wish we had a firm ETA from Ubi but that's not likely to happen so all I can hope is that they act together soon. Failing that, I'll sit down on the weekend and draw up a whole new assignment list that accomodates the patch issue but it will be a royal pain in the *ss to do...hence my stalling.

Now about that Smithwicks....:D

Been waiting for some payback after all those shots I've delivered over the past month or so. In a battle of wits I was beginning to think I was fighting an unarmed man... ;)

And another shot about re-loading... MrT, you're on a roll. You might actually get funny.

I'll have another post ready to go up this evening, I just have to change a couple of game results ;)

I've just been showing a little decent respect and mercy on the aged and decrepit, but after some of your more recent verbal mortar rounds I decided that it was time to return fire. :D

Ahh. There is life in the wino, after all... :)

Say, while I think of it, I ran across something bizarre, and I was wondering if anyone else may have experienced the same problem. I was monitoring the Alliances during my game, and found that the expiration date was advancing by one for each new year. In other words, the Alliances would never expire. Anyone?

Pardon? Sorry. Missed that. Could you say it again, but with your teeth in this time...:D

Err...possibly the alliance was at war? If so, the expiry would continue to keep pace with the current date but maybe it's only updated once per year or upon a peace traty being secured. I can't think of any other reason and I didn't notice anything like what you describe happening in my game. I can't confess to having watched it all that closely though.
