All,

given that Eutopia is pretty quiet at the moment thanks to the elections, now may be a good time to broach the issue of party registration again. *Groans from the audience* :D I'm thinking specifically about the required minimum number of members. We had a brief debate about this a while ago, but didn't really arrive at a definitive decision.

Right now, the elections have been going on for four days, and 37 players have cast a vote. It seems to me that this approximates general participation levels in the game. As a consequence, I'd like to revive the idea of lowering the minimum number of members parties need for registration to 3. The currently required 4 members would be fine with about 50 regular players, in my opinion, but with an actual base of about three dozen regular players, the hurdle is a bit high.

Anyhow, please post your thoughts on this... :)

Big thumbs-up. :) I think 3 is an ideal number, given present participation levels. If for some miraculous reason we have hordes of people come in, and each wanting his own party, well, we can cross that improbable bridge when we come to it.

I agree with Baudolino. We should lower it now for the amount of players we have, and can always raise it in the future.

Edit/Addition:
Obviously, lowering the membership # for a party will make it easier to get more parties registered & running. However, will it really affect the parliamentary balance? Will these parties really end up w/ seats? If they don't, it might not matter how many members they have. Just something extra to think about.;)

I hate being the only one to disagree..

Running a party with 4 members isn't as easy as it sounds. I think the 4 member-minimum is a nice safeguard to make sure enough people are always available in case of an emergency.

The 4 member-minimum will also increase the average quality of the political parties, which are a key component of EUtopia. Quality parties make for a quality EUtopia.

I prefer the current number. I want to be sure that if a party is registered it's actully working.
If anything I don't think we need a party for every cause. I wonder why the royalists don't start an NGO.

Generally I feel EUtopia has gone off to a good start. We just need some more activity from the GMs :)

Although the party I lead (ESRP) is one short of four members; I also think that four is a good number. Three members might give us too many.

I think, and this is a bit off topic, the problem we're having is with membership. I think there are two reasons for this:

1)Bad Timing: We re started Eutopia just as HOI got released. Thus less time for people on these boards....

2) Current Server Restricitons: The Off Topic threads no longer show up on the "Read Newest Posts" display. I found out about the original Eutopia simply by seeing all the threads devoted to the topic in the "Newest Posts" list. The only way to know that this game is happening is to actively look for it. People who don't know about it, won't come looking.

Well, let's put it this way: 3/37*12 = 0.973. In other words, yes, they would get seats - provided all their members vote, and overall turnout stays about the same. :)

I agree that E2 has started well; three dozen active players is nothing to sneeze at. But of course, more players would be even better. :)

As to GM: I assume they'll get more involved in actual gameplay (as opposed to behind-the-scenes stuff) once we have sorted things out a bit (i.e., sometime after the elections). Right now, game events wouldn't do us much good, since we're still in the set-up phase. :)

Well, we did advertise E2 in several other fora, and I assume there was some word-of-mouth as well (personally, I sent about 50-60 pm to invite people to take a look at E2). If any of you know a board-member who might be interested in E2 but hasn't shown up yet: there is still time to contact them... (hint) ;)

Wouldnt the dropping of the number from 4 to 3 need a parliamentry 2/3 majority because its a major ammendment?

I think 4 is a good safeguard, people shouldnt be so stubbern and parties with similar ideas should merge, not be seperate.

Just a bit of a heads-up, in the event that it lends any further consideration to this discussion ... I've taken it upon myself to contact some of the more promising and politically-educated players at the decidedly sophomoric and pointless (yet strangely addictive) Nation States game, and hope that maybe a few of them might pop in here, see what we're about, and choose to stay on. :)

If it's done in-game, I would think so. It could also be done by GM-fiat, though. :)

With all non-registed party, becaming official parties, there is no need to the number of member to be 3.
and because the royalists parties may merge, all parties will be official
