Land OOBs:

I've got basic land OOBs for all countries (one exception, China). Basic means basic like in original HoI where some countries have divisions named "Army of Guatemala"/"1a División de Infantería". I've got more complete OOBs for Germany, Britain, Russia, Austria-Hungary, and most of the European countries. But I would like to see a good Italian OOB if someone has any. I've got a basic one stating x number of corps with x divisions in each except for coprs number x which had x number of divisions, and so on. But I have no locations. China is another problem, for which I don't even have a basic OOB. Post anything you have.

Naval OOBs:

I've got some good facts for this, but I haven't scripted anything yet. Post what you have got.

Air OOBs:

Have nothing, except for some numbers on how many Zeppelins Germany and a few other countries had.

Post facts to me and I'll script it.

Locations for Italian forces were as follows in 1914:
Torino: I, II Corps
Milano: III Corps
Genoa: IV Corps
Venezia: V Corps
Bologna: VI Corps
Ancona: VII Corps
Firenze: VIII Corps
Roma: IX Corps
Napoli: X Corps
Bari: XI Corps
Palermo: XII Corps
Cagliari: 1 division (technically part of XII corps)

All corps comprised 2 infantry divisions, although some might be better shown as militia. By May 1915 Italy also had one mountain division and four cavalry divisions.

Navy:
(excludes ships noted in Jane's as "ineffective" or "obsolete")

Dreadnoughts (12" guns): 3 (Dante Alighieri, Giulio Cesare, Leonardo da Vinci) plus 3 under construction , to be ready in April-May 1915 (Conte di Cavour, Caio Duilio, Andrea Doria)

Pre-Dreadnoughts: 8 (Vittorio Emanuele, Regina Elena, Napoli, Roma, Benedetto Brin, Regina Margherita, Ammiraglio di St Bon, Emanuele Filiberto)

Battlecruisers: none.

Armoured Cruisers: 7 (San Giorgio, San Marco, Pisa, Amalfi, Varese, Francesco Ferruccio, G.Garibaldi)

Cruisers: 15 (Basilicata, Campania, Marsala, Nino Bixio, Quarto, Libia, Calabria, Puglia, Elba, Liguria, Lombardia, Etruria, Piemonte, Etna, Giovanni Bausan)

Destroyers: 36 (plus 3 building)
Torpedo Boats: 28 (excludes coastal boats)
Submarines: 2 coastal

The main fleet base was at Taranto, with a secondary base in Cagliari (or La Maddelena, to be exact). Light forces (destroyers) were also stationed in Venezia, La Spezia and Napoli.

China:
Regular army of 36 divisions, divided into the Northern Army (under Yuan Shi-kai) at Peking and Tientsin and the Southern Army around Shanghai. The Northern army was notably better trained, but still hopelessly badly equipped by Western standards, and plagued by supply shortages.

"Army of the Green Standard" - provincial militia, about 750,000 men strong but completely ineffective in combat and under the control of local warlords, not the central government.

Navy: 6 light cruisers (Ying Swei, Chao-Ho, Hai-Chi, Hai-Yung, Hai-Chu, Hai-Chen), 7 destroyers, 8 torpedo boats.

The Royal navy did not have any aircraft carriers until 1918, when the Argus and Eagle were built. They should be left out of a 1914 scenario.

199 destroyers

Approximatly 50 submarines

Warned you that was long.

Steele, many of these were not available in 1914. Those above for certain came later. As did thise pinched from overseas contracts to Turkey etc...

But, it is a very complete list of 1914-18 construction.

The 5 Q.E. ships were all launched before 1914. They were not commissioned until some point in 1915, between February and November. However, the vast majority of the work on them was done before war broke out. That was my qualification on including ships.

As for a list of construction, 1914-1918, another 5 battleships, and more than 12 cruisers, not to mention another ungodly amount of destroyers would be necessary.

As for Langley, you're right on her not being available for the war, but as far as I know, she was converted in 1920.

I've got one (as stated in the first post, I've got basic OOBs for all countries except China, and more complicated for most European countries). Thanks anyway. :)

Steele:

Although the Queen Elizabeths were all launched between Oct 1913 and Mar 1915, the first one wasn't completed until Jan 1915. Even Benbow, Emperor of India and Canada were still being completed when the war started, and Erin and Agincourt weren't ready to sail yet.

Also, the battlecruisers Invincible, Inflexible, Indomitable, Indefatigable, New Zealand, Lion, Princess Royal, Queen Mary and Tiger were all in service.

Also, a large portion of those light cruisers were not in service until 1915 or 1916, most notably the C-class ships.

Just out of curiousity, are you planning on starting the mod right at the beginning of the war, or slightly earlier?

Neil:

As has been said, the Q.E. ships were all well under construction before the war broke out. As far as I know, there is no way to reflect this in the game. Therefore, I think that these ships should be given to the British.

The same thing goes for the 'C' class cruisers. The keels for these ships were all laid well before war broke out, except for the Centaur and the Concord, which were not laid until late 1914. I have not included these for these reasons.

I already removed the USS Langley, as she was not built a carrier, but converted to one in either 1920 or 1922.

What do other people think about this? Ships under construction, and almost complete, should (in my opinion) be given to their owners, perhaps with 0 strength and 0 org, or something.

Is there any way to have units under construcion at the start of the scenario with fewer than full construction time left?

Some of them I could see, but others were still far from completion. And since the average RN shipyard turned out a light cruiser in 12 months in 1914, I think that any ship started after May 1914 or thereabouts should not be included in an Aug 1914 scenario.

Now that is an interesting possibility. Simply reduce the strength enough so that it will take an appropriate amount of time to repair itself.

Yes, it is possible to add constructions with less than full time to the build queue. You can decide both the IC cost and the time left for the project. And that is what I think we should do. Give those ships the IRL commision date and a lower IC cost.

/Elisson

I can take care of that then. I was not aware that this was a possibility.

The following should be under construction at the outbreak, and should be done on the listed dates.

Battleships
Revenge-March 1916
Resolution-December 1916
Ramilles-September 1917
Royal Sovereign-May 1916
Royal Oak-May 1916

Queen Elizabeth-January 1915
Warspite-March 1915
Barham-November 1915
Valiant-February 1916
Malaya-February 1916

Benbow-November 1914
Emperor of India-November 1914

Canada-September 1915

Cruisers
Calliope-June 1916
Champion-December 1915
Caroline-December 1914
Carysfort-June 1915
Cleopatra-June 1915
Comus-January 1915
Conquest-June 1915
Cordelia-January 1915
Royalist-March 1915
Phaeton-February-1915
Penelope-December 1914
Inconstant-January 1915
Galatea-December 1914
Aurora-September 1914

This should help. I'm glad we cleared this up. Putting them as under construction is a simpler solution (probably) than having them with minimal strength and org.
