I've nver had a problem with steam. I really do not understand other people grip about it
only steam version???

Steam works amazingly. If it taxes your computer so hard than you probably shouldn't buy EU4. Also get with the times. Don't be stupid and limit yourself to one site. There is not really any reason why anyone should hate steam. Good customer service they have great holiday sales and offer lets of other services that other sites don't have. I just don't get why you wouldn't want to use it. :blink:
Ehh I feel like a lot of the people who dislike are ones who used it back when it was still bad, but haven't tried it since pre-2007 or 2010 when it started rapidly becoming better. It's been through a lot of changes now and compared to back when it first came out, it's like a completely new program.
Download CKII or EUIV. Once done, close Steam. Go to the install location, find the "ck2game.exe" or "eu4game.exe" (EU4 line is a guess as I already deleted my demo, can't test until tomorrow) and make a shortcut on the desktop. Double click the shortcut and you will launch the game without Steam running.
For emphases, I will repeat: IT WILL RUN WITHOUT STEAM RUNNING!
PAradox has ALWAYS been good to us in this regard (I have no problem leaving Steam running 24/7 along with my computer).
To summarise my only issue with Steam from that other thread. I have multiple gamers in the house. We have more than one Steam account. All Steam accounts have used the same credit card to buy the games and have the same email address attached to the accounts. For some unknown reason I am unable to transfer my games between my accounts. If someone is playing Game X on account 1 and I want to play Game Y off account 1 it is VERY inconvenient. Yes, I realise this is a licence condition of Steam, I don't like it and it was better (for me) back in the bad old days when I could just grab the disc for Game Y off the shelf and play it.
