Ok that sounds really bad. There is no F way that the stories will be solved in that time.Really disappointed

For me atleast I felt like the story played out in a good manner though some parts felt missing like I atleast at first thought that the game hinted at all the companions having their own side quests I never got to do them (if there are any). This part felt missing and was a part of the story which in my book was unresolved. The ending while feeling a bit rushed didn't really feel unresolved though it strongly hinted at an expansion/sequel or something in between.

Nope, no companion side quests

And pretty much the above, story overall was great, ending felt rushed (and somewhat unfulfilling to me)

I finished the game, and steam puts the time I spent in it at 17 hours. I talked as much as I could with every companion, I did every sidequest, I was fairly completionist. While I don't think I've finished the game, and am interested in playing the game one or two more times, I was really enjoying it until I got to the middle of the third act.

Mainly, I'm really disappointed there is no "loyal servant of Kyros path" just a "Disfavored" or "Scarlet Chorus" path. I initially allied with the Disfavored, but I had gathered a huge amount of evidence against Graven Ashe, and almost none on the Voices of Nerat. So, when Tunon called me to his court, I naturally said that Graven Ashe was the most guilty. Then I got more confused when Tunon decided to swear loyalty to me, and not to Kyros. I feel that it would have been natural for a character to do what I do, as a loyal servant of Tunon turn Archon.

Still, I enjoyed the game overall, and didn't feel like my time or money was wasted. I do think it lacked companion side quests, as often it felt like it took 15 minutes or so of talking before they turned from total strangers to completely dedicated followers. Because often it did.

I really have to ask because I am curious, knowing what you do about the game, what rating would you give it.

That is a fair score from what I understand. It does sadden me that there is no companion side quests. I have been trying for them my entire play-through.

Yeah. But I am glad they react to the main story event when they're with you and comment on them if they're on the spire(s)

A bit spoilerish so tagging the answer
It is explained in the game that the edicts are what makes Kyros so strong and that no one else can use them, when you start to get the power of edicts you become a threat to Kyros since "There can be only one". So it doesn't really matter if you are loyal or not since Kyros see's you as a threat. It also feels heavily like the game devs wants to set up for the follow up of it being the player vs Kyros. Also on the evidence part I am pretty sure that you will always find the most amount of evidence against the part you join at the start. Since if you have enough evidence you can convict that party and instantly kill him. So if for instance you found most for Scarlet Chorus while going Disfavored path act 3 would have pretty much no fights since you could just convict Nerat instead of fighting him. It also makes sense that since both sides are pretty much guilty it's easier to find stuff on the side you are close with. Also there are pretty much 3 ways to go Disfavored route, Scarlet Chorus route or "rule alone" route. I never really tried the "rule alone" route but my guess is it should be available since every time you "takeover" a place you are given the choice to betray the side you joined and take it over for yourself and thus breaking of from the Disfavored or Scarlet Chorus route.

I am around 10 hours in and I don't feel like I am half way through. I suspect you made the mistake of reading "gamer journalist" reviews where they simply beat games as fast as they possibly can because they don't have the time to actually experience them. They probably ignored most if not all side quests, played on low difficulty, and or skipped a ton of conversation options.

There is also the replay ability from different choices etc.

I had thought that a possibility, but based on the posts above 20 hours seems to be pretty accurate - if not a bit inflated. I read in the comments on one gaming site that some people were beating it in less than 10, and lots of people saying 15-17 was about average.

Replay times simply don't count. I'm not going to replay a game like this anytime soon - I might wait a decade before I play something a second time. Don't get me wrong - dynamic choices are IMPORTANT and fundamental for a game to be any good these days- they just can't come at the expense of the actual game.

Well I am currently on the last act game and going to deal with a certain someone and looking at my hours it is about 20 hours honestly I feel it was worth the money. There has never been an rpg these days with a good, mature and realistic story and I enjoyed every bit of it. Loads of ways you can roleplay your character and the paths you can take those 20 hours I played the game was worth every cent.

I played pillars of eternity even if the game is much much more longer I prefer tyranny because with my rpgs I like to go back and play them and pillars it's story and world even if it's such a long game never drew me in. I never really felt invested in my character or the characters around me.

I just finished my full run, took 23 hours (I am a 'slowish' player and explored every map before I moved on). Did all the quests unless I missed one or two side ones. Its main story and gameplay mechanics are solid but there wasn't much in terms of side-quests, just 1-2 for most towns (not counting the main NPC bases) so it was rather short in my opinion. Without giving spoilers, there are roughly 3 paths you can take in this game so replay value is kinda limited to 3. Overall i'll give it a 7/10 and a wait for sale advice as buying it full price now might not be worth it in terms of content.

How does the game feel compared to KOTOR/KOTOR2? I always played those as a Dark Side/Sith Lord character, and I did 2-4 playthroughs on each game. I don't recall KOTOR2's length being particularly long but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I also thoroughly enjoyed BG/BG2 and love games that are more open world/side quest - heavy. Would it be better to pick up this, or PoE? I just want a new cRPG where I can run around with a group of self-serving sociopaths, hurting people and building an empire in equal measure.

I just finished it and i feel that the game was rushed and unfinished. The last act was mess that finished in an 2 hours. The spires are pretty much useless and the last two you just had to go them and read something while the first two had an interesting dungeons. As whole it feels like the game should have been at lest two times longer. The companions have no quests and no resolution to their life stories(There is some slide show at the end of the game but it is meh) and the loyalty system is pointless (for the companions). All the companions loyalty points are in the first act and after that i haven't got a single one.As a whole the game is my first disappointment from Obsidian.

It depends how much you read and do sidequest. Also mistakes happen and you need to repeat level or something. It could be 30 hours of full run.
Also it is game where i am already inspired to take another commander. And there there is neutral side as well.

Target gamers are different. Many people dont have 60h for one game. Before they can play that, they would already get lost about what was in the beginning. It is best to have 1 game but with 2 walkthoughts. That way both groups of players will be happy.

I suppose the fact is that with a set amount of resources, you can either build a long, largely linear game, or a shorter one in which player decisions matter more. It's a scale that can slide one way or the other. In both cases you need to create similar amounts of content: only that in the latter you won't be able to experience it all in a single playthrough.

I personally prefer shorter and having my choices matter more since I like to replay my games. After playing inquisition I don't feel like doing another play through tyranny? I want to do another run with a different character and allying with a different faction.

I am just tired of all the RPG games were developers per example bioware saying "Your choices matter!" and in the end they don't matter mass effect 3 is a pure example of this. Oh you killed the rachni queen! Well the reapers just got another one! and you STILL have to fight their children. :D -.-
