..instead we pay extra for unit skins, music, portrait creator and an expansion that unlocks what's already in game but has been locked for modders? I just don't buy unit skins etc. but I don't get what point you're trying to make.

you mean instead of 'muslim_playable=yes' you need to change 'muslim' to 'muslim2' to use pre SOI muslims?

And all of those features would not be there without DLC. How about that?

Clearly this is an outrage! *brings out pitchforks and torches*

I don't see how it's relevant. I was responding to a person saying "At least Paradox don't make DLC like EA does" because they clearly do. Playing as a muslim was here long before the expansion, it's as silly as an expansion to EU3 that let's you play as non Europe nations.

you mean instead of 'muslim_playable=yes' you need to change 'muslim' to 'muslim2' to use pre SOI muslims?
I was under the impression that players without SoI were 100% locked out of playing as muslim leaders.

Does the original game allow you to play as a Muslim? No? Then it was not a supported feature and Paradox can do whatever they want with it. If Paradox has to take every single mod into consideration when making an expansion and still actually be able to sell it then they would never get anything done. I love modding my game, but I also accepts what comes with it - the potential that your stuff breaks and needs fixing.

This is the part where I tell you all how capitalism is predictable as fuck by pointing out I literally called this day one. I said that paradox, due to DLC getting stupider and stupider over the years, sprite packs and such, would eventually release a "DLC" that would be very small and basically add some flavor events and a new UI design to muslim rulers, but the real "DLC" would be the patch, that made muslim ruler unplayable without buying the DLC. You just watch, they're going to do the exact same thing with Pagans and Mongols, the first legitimate expansion to CK2 will be an expansion that spreads out to India and western Asia.

This is all bullshit and I guarantee that the next title Paradox releases will have DLC just like this, only it will be unjustifiably expensive and people will still buy it. It's the same route 90% of all game developers are taking these days. Eventually games are all going to be made by some form EA, where you get 10% of the full game on retail purchase, then you have to pay to play the rest of the fucking game, that should have been there from the goddamn start.

So you want everything free?

Spirit packs were released long before for EU3 already. Even if you don't buy SoI, you get a lot for free, something EA doesn't do. Claiming stuff should have been in game from the start shows you have no grasp of the amount of work put into these things.

I'm perfectly fine with Sword of Islam as it stands on every level, forbidding players from playing Muslim rulers without buying the DLC is fine, it just annoys me a tiny bit. Sword of Islam could have been part of the game day 1, but I do realize how much work goes into video game development, especially grand strategy, I'm not complaining about the now, I'm complaining about the future, I am complaining that the way things will be, Paradox, one of my favorite developers, is going to become EA.

Really, I think this way of doing dlc is a quite good method, and that is for one overlooked reason. It allows PDS to not going HOI 3 feature overstretch leading to tons of borkend features. This way they can focus on the most important features when designing a new game and make them polished and functional like with the CK 2 release and still find a use for all the spiffy cool ideas that came up during development that would have to be axed in order to make a solid game on release.

Personally I think that 10 euro is a fair price point. I haven't bought any dlc's yet since I'm not so keen on any of the features bit I am enjoying the 1.06 patch. Really, if people didn't just blindly buy everything put in front of them but instead acted as responsible consumers there would be no preoblems.

Have you ever played NCAA? You buy the game for 60 bucks, then realize that the "new features"...ahem team builder....are things you have to pay for, separately. At least ck2 isnt just ck1 with character updates

Oh come on.

Again, you can mod the game to allow muslims to become playable.
And I think this DLC model is an improvement over the past paradox franchises, EU3 and the like. Expansions meant the NO MORE patches, or even bug fixes for existing ones in the main game. Isn't forcing players to buy an expansion to play a more stable game more evil?

Some may not see 10euro for the DLC as your money's worth, but I have to remind you guys - CKII patches have added a load of functionality to the game since launch, adding features you would only see in paid expansions previously.

I think that CKII is perhaps the greatest paradox game - heck it was playable since day 1 (which is quite an achievement when you compare it to the previous games:rolleyes:)

Every patch, new content is added without you even paying a cent, and this more than justifies the cost of the DLC.(and future ones) And it allows you to play multiplayer with others without having to buy their expansions.

I'd say SOI is worth 5€, if you want 10€ with those songs and sprite packs (THERE AREN'T EVEN NEW PORTRAITS!)

So... New graphics and music are equal in value to new features, to you?

I hate to make this argument, because the people making it are almost universally insufferable, but, well... Attitudes like this are why we don't get deep gameplay in many games any more :| .

Sword of Islam could have been part of the game day 1, but I do realize how much work goes into video game development, especially grand strategy, I'm not complaining about the now, I'm complaining about the future, I am complaining that the way things will be, Paradox, one of my favorite developers, is going to become EA.

I can imagine a VERY large number of additional features that could have been part of the game on day 1 but I have given up on my previous idea of kidnapping the programmers and making them work on those features as slaves in my basement.

Really if you make the calculation buying the DLCs comes much cheaper (restriction devices, 24h surveillance, food/water - trust me it adds up).

Complaining is stupid if you do not do it for a good reason.

I already noticed that "money" is no good reason for a lot of people here.

"So... New graphics and music are equal in value to new features, to you?"

Depends on the "features" and on the graphics/music, yes. Beside decadence there isn't really a "big new feature".

Though i guess if some people would chip in... ?
