Now I have a chance to save Byzantium. I'll have 34 years to save it from those heathen Turks.

While we're at it... Will the tech groups still be present so that China can't advance?
Why not just let the now famous sliders for openness, democratic values, etc. set the pace? I agree that perhaps the distance to other countries would influence the rate of technological "överföring"/overflow... but, hey? I'd really want the game to be a historical simulation, taking into account conscious decisions by the player, not just forcing actual history upon players when they have done completely different from what their historical counterparts did...Originally posted by Johan

Yes, but that should be an initial value, not some constant - never changeable during the whole game... I think the game should be modelled after historical factors (i.e. religion, government) rather than having exactly the same histoical events happening regardless of the outcome... Playing Sweden I tend to have a little hard comprehending exactly WHY Gustav II Adolf drops dead from his horse the 6th of November 1632, even if there is noone there to shoot him, even if he's healthy enough to command an army...Originally posted by Zagys
I disagree. Some societies were much more resistant to change than others, the game should reflect that.
