I want a steampunk themed expansion.

I want Victoria II: Rust and Steam. I want some new sprites with airships, big warplanes, the controlversy between lighter-than-air or heavier-than-air, references to Roburthe Conqueror and Fogg's 80 days around the world, to Nemo's Nautilus, "professor Challenger, I presume", armoured colonial troops with portable Maxime guns, big damn clanky steam tanks and land ironclads, sea bases for airship support, air carriers for warplanes, and new trees for that kind of techs.

Didn't they go for Late Medieval norse religion and Aztecs in Europe? Well, indulge in this guilty pleasure that I'm sure many of us playing Vicky II share. Steampunk rocks and we want to open airhsip lines between London and Istanbul and New York. The Orient Airline Express sends zeppelins out to Istanbul from Paris, and the Titanic is a huge civilian dirigible that had an accident somewhere along the Northern Atlantic.

Energy fists, Tesla madness, steam powered armour, pickelhaube-sporting robots and sky dreadnoughts that vomit steam into the open sky.

A bit like Civ V did with his Empires of the Smoky Skies, an appearance close to that of Columbia from Bioshock Inifinite (minus the whoe floating city, of course) but in Victoria's full blown glory. I'd buy it even for 20 euros, damn it if I wouldn't.

Actually, I've thought a little about how you'd implement things like supply lines and flow of goods, and it's actually a fairly quick graph implementation, which uses shortest path algorithms that we already see for traversals of militaries and so on. It's not difficult or slow to implement, and the shortest paths are recalculated every now and again, and if we get a VicIII on multiple cores, it won't be a big slowdown.

Hmmm . . . . I'm guessing what you're talking about is something like:

1) There is a purchaser in a country with a capital in province A and a seller in country with a capital in province B.

2) The game periodically calculates the shortest path from B to A and asigns a transport cost to carrying a unit of the product along that path which is then added to the product-price to make a total purchase-price.

3) If the sale is made, the product-price is paid to the seller, and the transport price is divided up along the owners of the province across which the products were transported (or the transport-ship owners for sea provinces). This means that infrastructure can earn money for the owner - for example, Russia can earn money from the trade of other countries carried along the Trans-Siberian railway.

4) Shipping routes from one capital to another can be seen on-map and intercepted using warships.

5) If there is no route from one capital to another, trade between those countries is impossible and their goods will not show up on each other's purchase menu.

This means that rather than having a single global market place, countries would have individual purchase-menus listing price-ranges for every product based on where they were coming from.

I want a steampunk themed expansion.

This would be awesome, but sadly I think Paradox aren't going to release any more DLC for V2. Definitely an idea for V3 though.

A steampunk expansion pack is extremely unlikely to happen due to their current business model.

Steam punk is all well and good, but not not in a world where there's such a thing as a combustion engine.

If there is one thing i think don't need more attention it's the research. I think it is one of the best in the Paradox games. The only addition i could think of is some kind of decoupling inventions from unlocking 'research blocks'. With the goal to make inventions available through investment and trade within SOI's. But this alone would need quite the rework and think is less needed.

I'm thinking of enabling buying machine guns and training officers. But not unlocking means of production.

I imagine the devs are going to make a final DLC and final patch sometime after then Vic2 is going to be moved over so that Vic3 can sell (Which I figure will come out sometime within 2014 to 2015).

Although, honestly, who would know other than the devs? Wondering about this stuff isn't going to change anything really.

Didn't they say no more expansions? Anyway, the changes that Vicky needs are too big to be done with an expansion:

- A move=attack combat system.

- A better naval combat system.

- Trade routes .

- More personalisation of the kind seen in CK2, not to the extent of having family trees, but at least having ministers with faces/names/attributes/goals.

While i agree with the move=attack system (atleast somewhat), and reaaaaaaaally much with the Trade routes, i think that the current naval combat system is way enough until atleast a hypothetical Victoria 4. And personalisation is something that has to be done veeeeery cautious. Victoria isn´t about persons, it´s about countries. And the most pressing issue is a complete rework of the economy, and of big parts of the political system.

Naval combat system is pretty good, and HOD improvements to ship building by requiring better ports were certainly very welcome. But the game needs submarines and a kind of Merchant fleet mechanic.

Maybe some more in-depth WWI mechanics? PDM does a a great job but maybe some more detail on military. I was thinking maybe a "dig trenches" button as opposed to simply a greater dig in bonus, or other such mechanics?

Victoria 3 is not coming soon. Paradox is trying new games outside of their franchises as they've stated several times (they've got a developer team working currently in a new game, not a sequel), and Hearts of Iron 4 will be next. So, I think it'd be good another expansion to Victoria 3, a political one (it seems there were a lot of ideas about politics and elections that didn't get into Heart of Darkness).

It was told that HoD sold very well, and also Victoria players were very loyal, so... It'd be a good thing both for the company and us.

And the most pressing issue is a complete rework of the economy, and of big parts of the political system.

I would like to see my cabinet of ministers and my current ruler, like in Hearts of Iron.

I agree, it would be extremely complicated to pull down all the research needed for the ministers and their pics (HoI was delicious in this regard, oh yes), but how nice would that be? I mean, the XIXth Century is also a century of characters and politics. I'd like to recreate Poland and see if it's being led by Pilsudsky, Dmowski or Rydz-Smigly. Different ministers and people could be attached to a certain PoP, and take their issues and concerns. This way, you'd know that, even if your party is X, Y and Z, your prime minister will work for another direction. Lack of agreement between ministers and parties were indeed common. To have a president who doesn't belong to any party, and thus he tries to push his own lideology forward, etc etc.

A DLC on politics would also be quite the thing. More spice in and between elections, more events regarding ministers, cabinets and lobbies, more of the ghostly presence of corporations pushing policies...

Steam punk is all well and good, but not not in a world where there's such a thing as a combustion engine.

Come on, steampunk is an excuse to have clanking robots and huge zeppelin warfare in a Victorian setting.

This was the Idea that i was going with. It's been said that the next 2 thing coming for PI is not an sequel. I know that said this several times like you said. Everyone has the idea that the next sequel will be HOI4. So It's going to be awhile before Vic3. Podcat was the one that said HOD did well. So I'm hoping that we can get another Ep. It's going to be Years and Years before Vic3. So get ready to wait.

Vic 3, with a converter for EUIV. The grand campaign!

This is what I was coming in to say, hahaha. Since we can convert a save from CK2 to EU4, it would be awesome to covert a save from EU4 to a possible Vic3. By doing this it sort of ends up as one mega game.

Or you can already do this via EU3...

Never got this whole "mega-game" fixation...if anything the EU series alone tries to cover too much.

Maybe some more in-depth WWI mechanics? PDM does a a great job but maybe some more detail on military. I was thinking maybe a "dig trenches" button as opposed to simply a greater dig in bonus, or other such mechanics?

Without move=attack it would be a wasted effort, and really, who wants to click through a few dozen armies telling them to dig in every time they stop?

I don't know about implementing move=attack into Victoria 2. This system seems to only fit in when trench warfare comes prominent. And until WW1 you din't really see it that much. And that is a quite short time span of the game. And would not make much sense for the rest of the game.
Also I think the provinces would have to be broken up more similar to HoI.
I could imagine to give every province 2 extra positions only for military units. So you keep down the amount of POPs for the economics calculations does not take overhand.
Than it would be more reasonable.

Maybe make it an unlock at a certain tech spread/time frame. When it switches over to move=attack. But this means 2 war AI for one game.

It makes more sense to make a dedicated game, similar to march of the eagle, dedicated to WW1.
