One last Breath - A Palaiologos AAR

Hello, all. I am playing with HttT with the 4.1 patch and no mods. I will be starting from October 31 1448 when Konmenos XI Palaiologos takes the throne of the Empire.

The style I want to go for is a narrative one.

Any suggestions as far as gameplay, and writing style are welcome. I'm not that strong of a creative writer so lets see how this goes.

The game will be played with CK style rules. If no Palaiologos remain in power the game ends.

Chapter 1: Setting the Scene.
The year is 1405, and throughout the Imperial Palace in Constantinople the cries of the newborn Konstantinos Palaiologos can be heard. Unknown now, but in due time the newborn infant will come to rule the Empire in its most desperate of times.

It is now the last day of October of the One thousand four hundred and forty-eighth year of the Lord. On this day the now 43 year old Konstantinos becomes Konstantinos XI, Emperor of the Roman Empire. The Empire had seen much better days. Barbarians had long ago brought down the Empire in the west and the Bishop of Rome heads a heretical Catholic faith. The West now divided rises once more. Descendents of the Franks grow powerful in Gaul, a false emperor “rules” over northern Italy and much of Central Europe. In the province of Hispania three powerful kingdoms have turned the tide against the moors. The Moors now cling to the Emirate of Granada but their outlook is bleak.

To the East the Turks have taken all of Anatolia and most of Greece. A few states remain from the western assault on the Empire during the fourth crusade, including the Knights in Rhodes. The fork-tongued merchants from the west prostitute Corfu, Naxos and Crete, as well as Athens. The Levant has fallen to the Muslims who now desecrate the Holy Land.

The reason for the Empire’s territorial deficiency is not hard to root out. The days of the Roman Legion are long gone. The army is reduced to nothing but a few thousand men to guard the capital. The navy is better off, but still not in good shape. Only 9 ships are suited for military use. 6 old galleys and 3 transport ships are all that remain of the navy that once ruled over the Mediterranean Sea.

Economically the city of Constantinople is doing fine but is no longer he thriving trade hub it once was. With other naval merchant powers in the west controlling the Mediterranean, the need for goods from the east to flow through the city is no longer there. A lot of work must be done if Konstantinos is to revive the Empire to its former glory.

Chapter 2: Konstantinos XI takes the helm.

Crowds of Romans roar as the new Emperor is paraded through the streets on his chariot. They shower his path with flower pedals. Konstantinos XI Palaiologos basked in the glory of his day. He stood at 6’5 and had a general appearance often compared to the ancient Greek god Zeus. His chariot was a reminder of the former glory of the Empire, as it was draped with the riches of former conquests. As he passed the cheers of the Romans grew to near deafening levels. After parading through the city streets the Emperor returned to his palace where he would address the citizens of the Empire of his plans to resurrect it.

The new Emperor stepped out to the balcony of his palace to address his subjects, and as he became visible to them, they cried out in joy for their new Emperor. While waiting for the crowd to quite the Emperor focused on the view. From this balcony he could oversee almost the entire city and could see the beautiful Bosporus strait. He noticed that the city today, was not the city of his childhood. The streets were filthy, and full of beggars and homeless. Music no longer filled the air of the city the way it once did. Street performers were no longer around and were replaced by prostitutes and whores. The overall beauty of the “New Rome” had fallen into the same filth that the “Old Rome” had when it was sacked for the last time.

When the crowd was silent the Emperor finally spoke.
“Romans! Today I am crowned your Emperor. I am an Emperor with no Empire. Our lands have been stolen from us. We are nothing more than a mere shell of our former glory. Our ancestors once ruled from Iberia in the West to Jerusalem in the East and all the lands in between. The Mediterranean Sea was the great Roman Lake. Today though, we stand on the brink of extinction. The Turks have taken our lands both in Europe and in Anatolia. They now stand poised to take Constantinople.

We have been stabbed in the back and abandoned by the West. They have left us to fend for ourselves against the Muslim invaders. A pretender claims the title Emperor of the Romans in Central Europe. Former Imperial lands now are in the hands of Western states left over from the Fourth Crusade. The Turk to the East proclaims himself Sultan of Rome.

This is the Empire I inherit today, but it is not the Empire I will leave behind. We will drive back the Turks, back across the deserts to the east. No Turk will find refuge in our Empire. We will reclaim Jerusalem. We will march gloriously back into Alexandria. And we will reclaim our possessions in the West, including Rome. The Bishop of Rome will be returned to his rightful position under the Emperors rule.

I say to you, that the future generation will look back to this day as the beginning of the revival of the Roman Empire. We will not fall to the pages of history like our brothers in the west did. We will survive.

But the road ahead is not an easy one. We are vastly outnumbered by the Turks and our armies are not trained very well or well equipped. Our navy is also in bad shape. We have not more than 9 ships fit for combat. This is far too few to hold back the Turkish horde.

Today I am ordering all able bodied men to report for training immediately. All those who refuse, or flee, will be publically executed for treason. All carpenters and ship makers will be conscripted to build as many new ships as we need.

The Turks will regret the day their forefathers crosses Persia and made enemies with the Roman Empire. From the brink of extinction, Rome!...Will!!...Rise!!!

Chapter 3: Konstantinos Prepares for War

Following the Emperors coronation immediate changes were made to improve the military. Firstly soldiers and sailors, new recruits and veterans alike, were to be trained harder, to maintain discipline in the face of a larger force. The Emperor knew that there was no chance the Empire could out man the enemy, so they would have to out skill them.

Another major change was the Emperor personally putting an end to knights. The heavily armored knights from the medieval ages were no longer useful .One of the reasons the Turks were able to beat back the Empire was because of the mobility of their cavalry. Bulky heavily armored knights proved ineffective. The Empire would no longer limit cavalry to nobles within the Empire but to anybody, regardless of social class. The new cavalry would be lightly armored and trained to use their superior mobility to overwhelm and swarm their enemies.

Konstantinos knew that military reforms alone could not save the Empire. The Romans would need allies. Imperial couriers were sent out to Serbia to the north, the traitorous Trebizond to the east, and one last appeal to the Pope for aid. The first to return was the courier from Serbia, who brought news that the Serbs had accepted to join the Empire in a defensive alliance. Next to come in was Trebizond who also agreed to join the Empire in an alliance. Lastly, the courier returned from Rome. The Pope had refused to assist the Empire. This would be the last time Konstantinos ever attempted to appeal to the west, for it had confirmed what he already believed. The west had abandoned the Empire and had left it to die.

As the sun was setting on Constantinople, a courier bearing the Trebizond coat of arms arrived at the Imperial Palace with new from his lord. Trebizond was calling the Empire to honor its alliance in a war against Jahangir Mu’izz Ak Koyunlu’s armies and his Turkish allies. Of course the Emperor accepted to come to their aid, as this would prove a good test for his reformed army. The army would be dropped off in Georgia and march on Trebizond to turn back the invaders. From there they would attack the small Turkish tribe who was also attacking Trebizond.

Just as the Emperor and his army had boarded their transports an official from the Imperial Palace called out for him bearing a grave message. The Turk has moved his army on Constantinople; the Empire’s last stand was here.

YAY a comment.

Edit: Dangit. I lost the save file. I am going to try to replicate what has already happened to get the scene set correctly. Either that or edit the save file.

Got the scenario to play out. Only difference is the Ottomans attacked about 6 months later. Expect an update tomorrow or late this evening, in my time zone.

Chapter 4: The Ottoman Jihad against Rome. The Emperor decided the best strategy was to abandon the city. They did not have the manpower to defend it against the Turkish onslaught. Instead he would on the offensive in Anatolia, first by crushing the smaller Turkish horde. To stop the larger Turkish army from reaching the Roman army, the navy would be used to block the Bosporus strait. To defend Morea, a smaller naval task force would patrol the Ionian Sea.

In order to keep the Empire alive, as well as his line, his wife, who was carrying the heir to his throne, and other family and nobility were sent to Morea. There they would establish a refugee capital and create a regency council to rule over the Empire in the Emperor’s stead. Konstantinos made a very risky decision, giving his brother, Demetrios head of the regency council. Demetrios had challenged Konstantinos for the throne of the Empire, despite Konstantinos having been appointed successor by his late brother Ioannes. could not draw support from the acting Empress Helena, or the Empire’s current enemy, the Turk himself Murad II Osmanli.

In May, Konstantinos arrived in Trebizond and immediately set out westward to crush the small Turkish tribe.

On their way back from Trebizond, the navy earned the first victory of the war, sinking a Turkish ship.

Back in Anatolia, Konstantinos was on his way to siege Kastamon, leaving behind a small force, under the control of a young nobleman by the name Ioannes, to continue to siege the city of Sinope. Nobody understood why the Emperor had seemingly chosen a random face from the crowd lead the siege.

Back in Morea more regiments and ships were being raised to help fight off the Turk. At the same time a disaster was building. Turkish ships were spotted taking control of the Ionian Sea and more importantly, creating a makeshift bridge between Achea and Janina. The blockade of the Bosporus Straight would have to be abandoned for now as to prevent the last refuge of the Empire form falling. As was expected the Roman navy was successful.

Meanwhile things were looking bad for Serbia. A Serbian envoy had reported that the city of Kosovo had fallen and that, Smederevo and Zabljak were under siege.

He also said that the King of Serbia had refused the Emperor’s offer to provide refuge for the King. The Serbian courier told Demetrios that “Our King knows that Serbia will fall, and does not believe the Roman Empire will fare any better. Knowing full well all will be lost; he is going to die fighting, alongside his men. He also says that should the Empire survive, and drive back the Turk, Konstantinos and his heirs are to be the successors to the Serbian Kingdom.

With this the Serbian envoy left, and returned home, to fight to the very last breath and kill as many Turks as possible.

News reached home that the last of the smaller Turkish tribes army was defeated. First suffering a loss at Sinope and then to Konstantinos himself in Kastamon.

The next day the council received some bad news. Two ships had been lost, seized by the Turks, one of which was carrying a regiment of men. Survivors from the other ships told the council that the Turks thrown all the Romans on board into the sea, some living, but most dead.

In Anatolia news reached home that Sinope had fallen and the victorious army was on its way to meet up with the Emperor in Kastamon. They also reported that Ioannes had perished in the siege. The report wrote that as the walls of Sinope were breached he led the charge into the city. While the two forces fought atop the walls of the fortified city, an arrow struck the young warrior in the neck. Before he had realized what had happened an enemy sword had found its mark, cutting Ioannes head clear off.

After nearly seven months Sinope fell.

The council saw this as only good news, as they had no clue who Ioannes was. The Emperor was not as joyous upon receiving the news. After hearing the news of victory a large grin crossed his face. He then asked why Ioannes was not telling him. When he heard the story the Emperor was overcome with sadness, and disgust. That night, the Emperor was haunted by the images of the young noble. Konstantinos had seen something special in the young man. He was a gifted warrior, and naturally born leader. Konstantinos had first taken interest in him when he oversaw the implementation of the new training methods. There he saw how quickly Ioannes picked up the new methods, and how no fear crossed his face. Now all that the Emperor saw, were images of how he had passed. How the light must have left his eyes, when he lost his head. That night the Emperor received almost no sleep.

Long awaited news came to the council in Morea, Serbia had fallen. The Serbian king had fallen just as the last envoy had said. He fought to the last breath and died alongside his men. With this came even more bad news. The Georgians had signed a white peace with the Ak Koyunlu tribe.

In May the Council received an interesting offer. Bosnia was offering an alliance. With Serbia gone, the council decided that it was in the best interest of the Empire to accept.

Saturday June 23, 1450, after nearly one whole year, Constantinople falls to the Turk.

Sneak preview of the next update: Losing Constantinople kills if your playing as Rome/Byzantium.

Getting images from one PC to the other proved to be more difficult than expected. Ended up making a Photobucket account to upload them, then copy them on my other PC from Photobucket. Hopefully I will have all the images edited and uploaded soon. All future Chapters will come with all the images now that I have it down. Still an annoying process nontheless.

Chapter 5: After the Fall

Hudson Valley Community College, Renssaeler New York 2011.

Professor Ymihur is giving a boring lecture on the events happening after the fall of Constantinople in his abnormally in depth history class.

“After the fall of Constantinople things began to change. Kastamon had fallen to Constantine XI and surrendered to Trebizond, giving up only some money and agreeing to void all foreign treaties. After the siege Constantine returned home to Morea to greet his wife and newborn son Manuel, named after Constantine’s father.”

Back in 1450

Roman ships carrying the army of Konstantinos enter the Bosphorus strait. All the cheers of victory are suddenly silenced, as they pass by the fallen Constantinople, which now waves a Turkish flag. Sorrow overcomes the men at this horrendous sight. Vows to take back the city can be heard under the breathe of almost every man. Konstantinos was not one of these men. His vow to take back the city was a loud cry. He called out to the Turk, vowing that he would take back his city, as well as his Empire, and would have the deceitful Turks head for on a stake.

When the men arrived at Morea they were greeted with a mix of thankfulness that they were still alive, but also with the heavy hearts of every Roman, all fearing that the end was near.

Konstantinos immediately went to see his wife and son, to try to spend as much time with them as possible before he had to once again deal with the reality of the situation at hand. That time finally came the next day when His brother sent for him, and a meeting of the council. Demtrios informed the Emperor of Serbia’s demise, as well as the new alliance with Bosnia, and of Constantinople’s fall, knowing full well the Emperor had already laid eyes on the fallen capital. He also informed the Emperor that the naval situation was better than ever and that the Roman navy had pushed every Turkish ship back to harbor, and that the Turks would not dare let their ships leave harbor. Konstantinos then informed the council of what he knew. He told them that Trebizond had fallen to Ak Koyunlu’s forces, but not before giving some gold to the Turks in a treaty.

After everybody was caught up on what was happening the council began to prepare their next offensive. First thing first, Constantinople was gone, and with it much of the Roman manpower. The council needed to heavily focus on the Morea. They needed to bring the ways of Constantinople to Morea. As it was Morea was the new capital of the Empire. The next order of business was how to strike back at the Turks. Konstantinos had reported that after the fall of Trebizond reached his ears his scouts noticed a large Turkish army going to Constantinople, leaving Anatolia relatively undefended. He suggested using the galleys to block the Bosporus and Ionian Sea, trapping the Turkish army in Europe, he could transport his men into Anatolia and slowing take the entire landmass for the Empire.

Skeptical at how well the Emperor’s scouts could judge the army left in Anatolia, the council agreed to the Emperor’s plan. What convinced them were reports of more men massing in Janina across the Ionian Seas. The reports were over 20 thousand strong were stationed there, waiting for the Turkish navy to take over the sea so they could cross.

An emissary from Athens also was in attendance, and assured the Emperor and the council that Athens would not allow the Turks passage, and that should the Turks attack them, the full might of the West would rain down the Turks. This news very much eased the concerns of leaving Morea undefended and allowing the Emperor to go crusade across the sea.

The final issue to be discussed was how to finance the Empire without the riches of Constantinople. To this problem there was no solution. Some suggested disbanding the army, which surprising grew more support than the Emperor or his brother had expected. To Konstantinos though, this was ludicrous. The Empire could not survive without an army. He argued “You cannot have a wealthy Empire, when there is no Empire to begin with. My men are not merely soldiers for hire. They understand that there is no defeat here. We either win, and live to see another day, or we die, and live in shackles under the Turk oppressors.”

Still other members of the council were not convinced. They did not quite understand Emperor even thought he could win. The war was lost and the Empire was gone. This disgruntled faction of the council would reluctantly accept the Emperors plans, only for fear of their lives, now that the Emperor’s most loyal men were guarding the council chambers.

Just as the council was about to be dismiss another messenger came, this time form the Kingdom of Bosnia. Apparently they had started a war for no real reason, and wanted the Empire to help. Clearly the Bosnians were insane thinking that the Empire could spare a single man or women for that matter, at the moment.

With that the council was dimissed. And Konstantinos and his men prepared to retake Anatolia for the Empire.

Back to the future.

“And that is where we will end today’s lecture. Remember, your essays on the years leading up to the fall of Constantinople are due tomorrow, and to keep up on your required reading. You should be through page 362 of Why the Roman Empire Declined? by Tomorrow as well as finished with The East-West Schism: Why it Happened by Monday. Have a good day."

Two students leaving the lecture hall have a converasation about the class.
“Man, this class is so boring. Stupid required courses.”
“Eh it’s ok. The actual history is kinda interesting, but the professor just cannot tell a story correctly. He just goes on and on and on and on in that monotone voice of his.”
“True, at least that Alicia girl in front of he is pretty hot, gives me something to day dream about.”
“Wow, you are such a creep.”
“Me? You’re the one who plays that weird Europe Universeus game and then writes up stories about your game to post on an internet forum.”
“How is that creepy?”
“Seriously you…, ugh, you know what, never mind. You going to Joey’s for the party tonight?”
“I might, but I have to finishing writing up my next AAR entry. My followers are not too patient.”
“Wow you are such a loser, and by the way, I checked out your ‘AAR’, you only have like two followers.”
“See I told you you were a creep. Now your stalking me.”
“Shut up. You better be at Joey’s tonight or I will beat you down.”
“Yeah, yeah whatever. See ya later.”
“Ight. Peace.”

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yay, new update. I think I am going to do one Paint drawing per update, unless I get some golden ideas. Hope you all enjoyed this one. Though I would add a new twist.

This is mostly a narrotive post. Not much gameplay involved. I think I finally got the hang of developing some character and creating a plot beyond the scope of the game. I really hope you enjoy. I dont have any pictures for it though. I might go scrap up some paint drwaings but for now here you go.

Chapter 6: Family Divide

2011 Theater 7, Regal Cinema, Colonie Center Mall, New York

Now screening, “One Last Breath: The Story of Constantine XI” more commonly referred to as simply “One Last Breathe.”

“Man it is really convenient that this movie came out right around the time we were studying this stuff in class.”
“Yea, I know. Seriously man, it’s like a book or movie or something.”
“Wonder what the previews are?”
“Yeah”
*Muppets Preview”
“Eh, I don’t know, it does have Jason Segel but these types of movies are never really that good.”
“I hear ya man. But you know the Smurfs wasn’t awful.”
“Yeah, but Neal Patrick Harris really made that movie. Well him and the Scottish Smurf.”
“That’s what I’m saying, if Neal Patrick Harris could do it, why can Jason Segel.”
“Ok whats next.”
“Happy Feet 2? Eh, it seems kinda corny, especially because they went out of their way to make the little penguin have a stereotypical black kid personality.
“True.”
“Really, another claymation movie. Nightmare before Christmas is the only good claymation movie and this one just looks terrible.”
“I hear ya, I hear ya. This does look kinda bad.”
“Oh time for the movie, shut up.”
“You shut up.”
From behind them “SSSSSHHHHH.”
One hour and thirty minutes later.

The coast of Anatolia is in sight, Konstantinos and his men are preparing to storm the port. Boulders from trebuchets land in the water around the ships, splashing the men on board.

“Men today is our day! Today we avenge our brothers who fell at Constantinople! Today we strike back at the Turk, in the heart of his empire! Steel yourselves! Ready! Charge! “

Konstantinos and his army of 3000 men storm the port city of Antalya. Turkish defenders, clad in turbans stand to try to hold off the Roman attackers, but their light armor is no match for the heavily armored Romans. The Turks are instantly broken, and now flee for the city gates. ! Turkish men are shown lagging behind the main force. The city gate begins to close. The quicken their pace. They draw nearer and nearer the gate, but they are too late. The gate is shut just seconds before they get there. They turn to face the attackers, who now surround the small group of Turks. The Turks plea for mercy, but like the defenders of Constantinople they shall find none.

50 Romans, lead by Konstantinos himself charge and slay the Turkish cowards. Now begins the siege of the city. The screen fades to black. Then comes back to life, now showing the gates of the city break open. Before the dust can clear 3000 Roman soldiers poor into the city meeting the defenders head on. Bloody scenes of hand to hand combat are shown, and within hours the city is claimed. The local noble heading up the city is executed by Konstantinos for refusing to hand over the city peacefully. The screen fades now showing scenes of combat blended with a map of Asia Minor with an arrow showing the route of Konstantinos army and the cities that fell at his hand. Izmir, was first and Konya was second.

The screen fades to black.

Back in Nafplio in Morea, in the council chambers, the council debates how to solve a new problem. Peasants from Achaea have risen up against the Empire. The Empire was bankrupt, and more than ever needed their crops to feed the army and upper nobility. This meant that there was less food for the peasants. The peasants of Achaea were sick of the so called oppression of the Empire. The council was split. Half of the council remained loyal to the Emperor and insisted the peasants be put down immediately and their leader hung for treason. The other half, lead by Demetrios, pleaded in favor of the peasants. They argued the Emperor had lead the Empire into a situation they cannot recover.

“Our Emperor, my brother, has led the Empire into ruin and destruction. We cannot win this war, and yet he continues to make our citizens suffer to continue it. These peasants are not rebelling because they want to overthrow the government. They just want to be able to eat and live without so much interference by the Emperor. Not only are they paying excessively high taxes, now we take their food to feed our army. We must make peace with the Turk. We must seek out the Turk for peace. If we give up Constantinople, we may be able to keep Morea and live in peace. But, if we continue this war effort, we will find nothing more than death. I beg you, good men of the Council of Morea, do what is right for our people, do what is right for the Empire, deny thy Emperor, and seek out peace with the Turk.”

“Traitor” cried out the leader of the loyalist faction. A noble by the name of Pavlos Meisurgos. “You are no son of the Empire. Your brother fights for his people and you stand here and defy him! You claim you wish to serve the Roman people by making peace with the Turk. What of our brother’s in Constantinople. Will you sacrifice all of them to the Turk, just to save the few people left in Morea not fighting the Turks.”

“Constantinople is gone you fool. Don’t you see. We will never go back to Constantinople. The Empire is dead. The Turks have won. If we continue fighting we will find nothing but death. But if we seek out the Turk we may find mercy.”

“Guards! Remove this filth from our presence.” Two guards clad in heavy armor enter and take Demetrios by the arms, and drag him out of the Council Chambers. “Send forth for the Emperor. Inform him his brother has committed treason and has been banished from the Empire. Those of you who wish to seek peace with the Turk would find it best to follow your false Emperor.”

“What! You do not have the authority to banish me. This is an outrage. I am the head councilor here.”
“You are a traitor. And as such you have no place here. The emperor will stand by my decision.”

Almost half of the council leaves, following the guards escorting Demtrios outside the city.

“Where did that messenger go? Get him back in here! Pavlos writes something on a piece of parchment. The messenger appears in the chamber doorway. “Here, take this and bring it to Konstantinos along with the other message.”

“Pavlos, what are we to do about the peasants. Surely when they receive news Demetrios was ousted they will be even more upset.”

“I know my dear Theodoros. This is why I have sent that boy to tell Konstantinos we need him to send half of his army home. That is if he is still alive. May G-d be with us.”

Screen fades to black.

The Emperor is seen outside the city gates of Konya when a young boy about 20 in age come running up to him. He hands him two letters. Konstantinos reads “My lord Konstantions, Emperor of the Romans, I regret to inform you your brother “Demetrios Palaiologos, has committed treason. He has conceded your defeat and seeks peace with the Turk. Because he is your brother his life was spared. I took it upon myself to banish him along with almost half the council, from the Empire. As your loyal servant I advise you stand by me on this. Also with your brother gone the council is in need of new leadership. As I have led the faction of the council that supports you, I request your permission that I take your brother’s place as head of the council.”

This news both saddened and angered Konstantinos. Furious his own flesh and blood would betray hims, and yet saddened that he would have to stand behind the councilor in banishing his brother.

Konstantinos then opened the next letter. “My dearest Emperor Konstantinos, peasants in Achaea have rebelled against your just and most glorious rule. In order to quell them we need you to send forth half of your army back home. Without such, we have no means of putting down this rebellion against the Empire.”

The Emperor agreed and sent home half his army. And to the courier he gave a letter to give to the new Head Councilor.

Fades to black. Credits role. Lights come on.

“Oh man, that was awesome. Konstantinos was such a badass. He made King Leonidos look ike a sissy.”
“Bro I know. How awesome was it when he stormed the port and took out 10 Turks before the rest of his men could even get to the battle.”
“I know man. Oh, oh how about the part where he lost his sword and still managed to kill like 10 guys with just his hands ad his shield.”
“Oh man yeah that was awesome. His brother was a real douche though. He completely stabbed his brother in the back.”
“Kinda. I kinda agreed with him. The war does seem really hopeless and Konstantinos is really putting his people through a lot of suffering. If you ask me that Pavlos guy is really sketchy. Kinda like Snape from Harry Potter.”
“Come to think of it your right. He seems really similar to Wormetounge.”
“Who?”
“Grima Wormetounge, you know, the really pale guy from Lord of the Rings. He was the advisor to the king of Rohan.”
“Dude, what is your obsession with the Lord of the Rings.”
“What do you mean, you just made a Harry Potter reference.”
“Yeah, once, you mention Lord of the Rings all the time.”
“Dude you make tons of Harry Potter references. You’ve made at least 6 since we have been here.”
“Yeah but, Harry Potter is cool and Lord of the Rings is lame.”
“Sigh, your such a douche.”
“If by douche you mean genius, then yes, yes I am.”
“No by douche I meant douche. So let me get this straight, a movie about teenage English wizards at a school of magic, that always seem to end up getting into mischief is cool, but a war against the forces of darkness in a medieval setting, that is the basis for almost every fantasy movie, book or game ever is lame?”
“Yep”
“I hate you sometimes, you know that.”
“Yep”
“Sigh”

There is something wrong with your image as it is just a box with an X. I notice that regardless of what I upload there is no way to make it not a thumbnail. Every sinlge image seems to be uploaded as a thumbnail.
