Pretty simple. If a player selects one FTL method only, then no one should be able to develop jump drives.
It's bizarre that this option would be included for people who want to play with just one method, but then would allow later techs to essentially break the theme. I'm guessing the vast majority of us that wanted to play with just one method really didn't mean only one method for part of the game.
For now, I'll have to start over (which is devastating; I was very attached to my 200+ year empire and galaxy) and mod the jump drive tech files, I guess.
