Indeed, in my current game, there hasn't been a year since the Seljuk conquest of Anatolia where there hasn't been a civil war. The Doukas lost the throne, regained the throne (multiple times) and then proceeded to fight amongst themselves. You'd think considering the direness of the situation that they'd come together, but no, their bickering even cost them Constantinople itself!
Looks like Michael VII inherited normally. Then conquered as a claimant the second time, then was installed by a faction the third. That's tenaciousness that is. Kinda sad that over almost forty years he sat on the throne three times, but only held it for a couple years total.
Pankratios was dethroned three times in a single year. You don't even want to know the marriages - Anna, the first usurper, ended up marrying the son (Pankratios) of Konstantinos, her brother.
All the heirs of Konstantinos X, and their heirs after them. Two soldier would-be emperors were supported by vassals, but Konstantios IV, the best emperor since this shit began, managed to put them down. He died of stress.
This is why I keep playing CK2 despite the fact I've pretty much seen it all. It sometimes becomes so much historical fun.
At least yours stay with the same Dynasty.. Look at what happened to the byzantine empire in my game. Although to be fair it seems it was only between two people who constantly fought for the throne it seems. those Dam Factions loved to demand this person become Emperor and then 5 years later someone else back and forth. sigh until someone finally inherited and then lost it because of a dam faction lol
