Welcome to the Sengoku forum :)

Unfortunately we are at this point not able to support more than one start date due to the amount of research needed. Instead we have put a lot of efforts into making sure that our setup is as historically correct as it can be and provide a scope that few other games covering this era provide:

360 provinces
400+ scripted characters
50+ independent clans
150+ vassal clans
and an historic setup for the Onin War.

is it possible to name the character you're playing, or his sons?

No, I'm afraid not.

Is there any chance of us having a list of the clans?

Nope. Can't spoil it all before release ;) But name ten clans you're wondering about and I will confirm if they're in or not.

Sweet!

Takeda beware =P Imagawa's coming for you!

I'm totally absorbing Soun into my ranks haha. maybe I'll even grant him Sagami >_> ... or just keep him in my court.

By the way, is it possible for family members to revolt and betray you? and is that a common thing in the game? or will it need some serious amount of negative relation value for them to betray you?

It depends on a lot of stuff including: their character (ie traits), stats, your honor and their relation to you. Some will plot against you to gain control over the clan, but most won't. If they're not of your dynasty, chances will be greater that they'll back stab you if they think they'll gain from it.

It would be interesting to aknowledge how the Hattori are implemented for games' purpose...

Hattori is in the game as one of the ninja clans you can hire.

what do you mean by "scripted"? do they have scripts to act according to history?

They are historically implemented characters - which means that they have historical names, birth dates, family connections etc. The rest of the game's lesser characters like courtiers and characters born after the game has started are generated.

Does this mean even after the beginning of the game characters from real history are born? Or does it only mean the initial setup is (partly) historical if it comes to characters? I ask this so that no misunderstanding is caused.

No, it's the same as in other Paradox games. After the game has started no historical characters appear.

How can it be a real Sengoku game without Nobunaga? :p

That's why we decided not to use the name Nobunaga's Ambition... ;)

Do you have plans to add some 16th century scenarios?

Not at the moment, but there's always the posibility of expansions or DLC depending on how well it does.

Yes, V2 is a much better subject that Sengoku! Lee was actually in V2, CSA had a decison which spawned a few historical leaders for them with nice stats. :)

If Sengoku does well, would you consider letting a Japanese game designer team expand the timeline and the character database?

Quite a few of my little research team are from Japan/live in Japan.

Does this mean, if a Historical character is present, his historical children won't be appearing?

for example:

I'm assuming the head of the Imagawa at the start of the game will be Imagawa Yoshitada, does this mean, his son Ujichika won't be appearing?

the game starts at 1471, he was born around 1473, and what about historical characters born in 1471, will they make an appearance?

EDIT:

Oh, and is there going to be a family tree like in CK2? it would be a sweet touch to implement it =P

The game actually starts in 1467 (26th of May to be specific) at the outbreak of the Onin War. Any principal heir born before that date will be in. Anyone born after that won't - just like in our other games.

few questions if i may:

1- what role/roles will the female characters play aside from marrying them to secure alliances and for children?

Female characters have a more limited role, but they can for instance lead the defense of a castle. So having a wife or other female courtier with high martial skill is quite good.

2- is it possible to NOT name a heir? for example, if you have 4+ kids, the eldest pissed you off, and none of your other kids really show any potential at the time, so you can't make up your mind, you remove the eldest from being the heir, and don't appoint another as the heir

When it comes to your dynasty the eldest son always inherit your titles (kokujin and daimyo). If no son is available I believe that a brother of yours will inherit. When it comes to the clan leader title it goes to the landholding character that most clan members vote for. You as clan leader can nominate your successor but you can't be sure that others will vote the same.

3- is it possible to have the ruler resign? we have lots of cases where daimyo and even the shogun, retiring in favor for their heir while they oversee things and rule from the shadows.

No you can't resign. But if your honor becomes too low you can choose to commit seppuku or be forced to do it...

4- is it possible to name someone not who isn't your son, as heir? for example, you have no kids, name your brother, or, you don't really like your sons, so you name your son-in-law, or your son-in-law's son/your grandson as heir?

No. See above.

The question should be: is there seppuku option avaible? :D

Yes!
