Does anyone have a strategy for an Onandaga to Iroquois game that has you stay settled?
The big problem I have trying to get going as them is that their missions are all useless- you get claims all over, but the lakes don't act as territory/coastal in terms of coring range, meaning you will never be able to actually demand any of your claims in peacedeals as you can't core any of it without a direct land connection. You're (almost) landlocked from your federation members at the start, so the claims don't serve any purpose.
Your only avenue of expansion is directly south into Susquehannock, which you can do with your first war on Dec. 11. Unfortunately, you also can't even core this province because of the land connection issue. You can burn your tribal development and settle the province inbetween your starting territory and their capital- this will at least let you core the province you take from them. But at this point your essentially stuck.
You don't have anymore tribal development, and you can't claim any more of your neighbors territory in wars because of the landlocked/can't core issue again. You can get a single province of tribal lands from Lenape, but you can't do anything with it, and that's it. You don't have the economy to build any buildings, and even robbing your neighbors for cash isn't very productive, as you can demand max 15 ducats from them in peace.
To make matters worse, despite improving relations with all of your federation members from the start, the two you don't ally will leave within the first 2 years, meaning that passing tribal reforms takes an eternity as you'll only have 3 members. I tried passing the tribal development reform first, but with only 3 federation members it goes painfully slow- it takes ~5 years to get the first reform passed, and another 5-10 to get enough development to settle another province and finally be able to expand- but again your only possible expansion at this point is Lenape.
It gets a bit better after this in terms of expansion, as once you can settle a coastal province you can core more than one target at a time. But still, sitting on your hands and doing nothing for the first 10-15 years seems like a terrible strategy given that the Europeans will land ~1500. I really feel like I have to be missing something here with regards to the mission trees and being able to get territory- is the entire mission tree really supposed to filled with useless claims that you can never use?
