I know you shouldn't give out new Counts their titles to newly conquered lands, as they'll become independent once the war is over. And that I can give current vassals, new count/duke titles with no worries. My question is this.

Does this apply to the entire state of being at war or only to the war against the enemy that once owned those counties you want to set up? As in, if I'm involved in 2 or more wars, defeat one enemy, can i then set up new counties with no worries, or do i have to wait until I'm completely at peace?

This only applies to land held by an enemy you totally destroy. In plain CK this was common as you got ownership of any county you took from a religious enemy. A country that runs out of counties disappears.

CK doesn't completely re-set vassal-liege relationships until you re-load, so if you take land from Lithuania, and create a Count whose primary title is in that area, and Lithuania gets totally eradicated the game concludes that he's independant.

In DV you don't usually destroy an enemy all in one go, so it doesn't happen as much.

Okay, let's see if i understand this using an example.

A Muslim beat up the last remaining independent Duke (Barcelona) in Spain (King of Aragon title area tho there is no King/Duke of Aragon Duchy) and took two of his counties in the peace deal. I already own 2 of the 4 counties needed to create the Duke title of Aragon. The Muslim took one and left 1 with the Duke of Barcelon. Both of those captured counties are in the Muslim King's personal demesne. If i defeat and capture those counties, create a new Count in that 1 Aragon county, create a new Duke of Aragon title and keep it, will that Count remain my vassal even if I'm at war with someone else?

I know I'll have to wait until after the war to create the new Count (as the rest of the Muslim's king's territories are in Mauritania) and I'll need to capture them all. (Which i should, owning most of Spain and France). But one never knows who might DOW on me in the meantime.

I'd also imagine giving that new Count the Ducal title would backfire, as i don't own enough of the Aragon King title to create it yet. And neither of my two Counts qualify under my playrules (one is still a Muslim ruler, the other is a female with heirs in other Muslim courts - both holdovers from a previous conquest).

This only applies to giving out count titles whose natural liege is the enemy you're fighting.

Example: you're fighting Mecklenburg in 1066. If you give a new vassal the title of County of Mecklenburg (assuming here you conquered it already), and then proceed to destroy MECK in the same war, the game will not have had chance to update the liege to the correct tag (you). So when you destroy Meck, the game sees a new count whose former liege is now gone, and makes him independent.

When this war is done will the Moslem Kingdom still exist?

If yes do whatever the hell you want. If you're going to destroy him completely you have to worry.

Well, it's not that it's A war, it's several wars. I'm just worried that when i do crush him, and i annex those 7 new counties into my already full demesne, that i HAVE to do something with them, while I'm fighting on other fronts. Those Muslim's in Africa/Mauritania show King titles, tho there's no actual King area called those names. So, it's hard to tell exactly what areas are in his normal sphere of influence. Vanilla DV, latest Beta patch.

What i finally did, was once i had him on the ropes, i slowed down the conquering of his territories, and worked on the other front. Finished up the other guy (he sued for a white peace) then finished off the one i really wanted. I had planned on taking on a Muslin for a long time, and had sent several of my Dynasty thru Religious training, so i was ready for him. (Tho now my court is looking a little feminine.) :)

Those titles don't have a normal sphere of influence. They're free-floating.

To find out what's actually in that country you have to use the Realm Map, every country is a different color. All the colors are used more than once so you should also try the relationship map. Change map mode by clicking on the buttons on the bottom left of your screen. There're two rows. The bottom one turns on various graphical options like Fog of War. The one right above it deals with map modes. They're right by the mini-map.

To destroy a tag you have to take every County in it's realm -- everything owned by the King, by his Emirs, and by his Sheiks.

Since you are playing DV the bug where counties that are created during a war with religious enemies become independent, no longer occurs.

So you can safely create new vassals during a war under DV.

Ah, and here i thought it was a feature, not a bug, but anyway, WEEEE! Thanks a bunch. :)

But i do have a bug to report, so I'll head over to the bug section and post about it.
