So, currently in EU4, the only nation who can technically mend the Schism, is the Orthodox nation Byzantium. This suggestion will have a few points.

1. Move the mission for mending the Schism away from Byzantium, and move it to all Orthodox nations. Since, a Orthodox Albania should have just as much of an opportunity to mend the Schism as an Orthodox Byzantium has.

2. Add a way for Catholic nations(preferable either the Papal State, or the Curia Controller, or the Defender of Faith) to be able to mend the Schism from the Christian side.

3. If the Orthodox faith manages to mend the Schism early enough, I believe it should either postpone or stop the Reformation from occurring.

4. It would still occur if it is the Catholic faith who mends the schism.

5. If the Schism is mended by either side, the side who mends it, has Centers of Conversion of their faith appear in the catholic/orthodox(depending) provinces of the other side.

6. Now, I am unsure how this would be added, or if even possible. It should be possible for the Catholics to mend the Schism caused by the Reformation, and some way for an Orthodox faith to fight it if they manage to mend the older Schism. I am unsure though that Protestants/Reformists would be able to mend this Schism from their side, considering how fractured it is with different believes.

7. Add some more flavour to the Coptic denomination?

When you mend the schism it changes many catholic provinces into orthodox and makes catholic a heresy. This entices rulers to switch to the new religion because so many provinces have converted and heresys are much more frowned upon by ai rulers giving massive negative opinions.

The 'Restore the Pentarchy' mission is available for all Orthodox nations, so long as they're independent, at least 10 provinces large, and own one of the six necessary provinces that the mission convers.

Huh. Wonder why I have never gotten it did as another Orthodox nation. Not as Albania, Trebizond, Theodoro, Muscovy, Russia, etc. Only as Byzantium.

He might be right that any nation can get it, I checked the code for the mission, but yet strangely I have only ever gotten it as Byzantium. So this is actually fairly weird.

Maybe a bug? The coding for it definitely indicates that it should be feasible for any Orthodox nation to get it. Possibly report it and see if you can get a confirmation.

I have gotten it as Russia quite frequently. Depending on positioning when it becomes available, it can be quite useful for wars as it gives a claim on the required provinces, and it can otherwise take awhile to get a claim on Rome.

I agree Mending the Schism should be more like CK2 where the other side is forced to convert through some means such as centers of reformation.

It works this way in my mod, though only Rome is a centre of reformation, the problem is that one centre of reformation is not enough to really convert anything other than OPMs. In large countries they can often reconvert provinces quick enough that they can not be consumed by orthodoxy. In order to be more effectual there probably would need to be an event to fire immediately after the Pentarchy is restored that gives Catholics the chance to convert to Orthodox.

Why is this not already implemented?
