As probably everyone here knows, most Republics in EU4 employ a system where you have the choice between three candidates with a 1/1/4 configuration and your previous ruler, assuming he or she hasn't had a most severe case of death. Re-electing a ruler costs Republican Tradition based on the term length but doing so grants +1 to each category of monarch point for the candidate. This however means that a lot of the time you are running with sub-par monarch point production compared to monarchies, who can simply disinherit poor heirs until someone with decent stats comes around. Sure, after re-electing your ruler 5 times they become a guaranteed 6/6/6, but doing so takes between 15 and 25 years depending on the length of terms. Given that the rulers that you get tend to be on the older side (and their ages aren't shown pre-election) you are generally unable to achieve this. Additionally, each new ruler is going to be generating fewer than average monarch points, so constantly re-electing new ones is going to have you be off worse as well, thus incentivizing you to re-elect rulers until they die.
I would suggest a few changes to this system, some major, and some minor, while keeping the core of the system still intact.
As is currently the case, there should be 4 candidates during elections, those being one candidate for each type of monarch point, as well as the current ruler (assuming they aren't dead). However, and this is the first major change, for the new candidates their pips shouldn't be some combination of 1/1/4. Instead, they should get randomized stats adhering to the following conditions:
The major other changes are with regards to the ruler up for re-election and they account for the fact that your ruler can start of with much better stats than is currently the case:
The final, somewhat minor change I want to suggest is to add the age of the candidates onto the election screen. Currently you have no real way of knowing how old the person you are going to elect is, which doesn't really make sense (you already know their level of competence somehow).
I am interested to hear what other players (or perhaps even the devs) think of these suggestions.

- Their skill in their primary stat should be 4 or higher, if the rolled value for that category isn't at least 4, it gets automatically changed to 4. If it's higher than 4, it remains higher.
- Any of their other categories can be AT MOST as high as their primary stat. If it starts of as higher, it gets automatically lowered to the value of their primary stat.
- Rather than getting +1 in every category as is currently the case, they will get +1 in a single category. If they already have a value of 6 in that category, +1 will be added to another category instead. Yes, this slows down the rate at which they improve massively, but your ruler also can start off much stronger, thus balancing things out.
- The initial cost of re-election should be halved from its current value, however, the formula for the cost should be changed to COST_OF_REELECTION*(TERMS_SERVED)^2. This means that continuously re-electing rulers becomes REALLY expensive really quickly.
