(The primary purpose of this AAR, which also happens to be my first. Is to conquer England as the Dutch Nation, starting as Holland. But also create a great power in europe, also hopefully create a trading empire. Sadly I forgot to take screenshots on the first settings here.)
1399-1409 War, Counts, Magraves and Dukes.
1399 - Holland was still in a bondage to the court of Hainut since the earlier count had died suddenly, however Count Albert of Hainut was not of the stable sort. And for whatever reason he decided to consilidate his power by quickly taking Utrecht and Friesland.
This was of course a huge mistake, and quite an emberresment on his part, since Duke Charles I of Burgundy decided to come to the aid of these states, along with Duke Casimir I of Brabant, and Duke Ferdinand I of Austria, the Emperor himself.
1402 While the hired mercenaries of Count Albert was fighting at Utretcht and Friesland. The standing army of Hainut was hold for now against Burgundy, however Zeeland was at the same time under attack by the Emperor. But fortunately the Brabant armies had been beaten the year before.
1404 REVOLUTION! Liberty! A man named Karl Der Vandeeren rose up against the tyranny of the Hainut Court, during an attempt to more the power closer to a despotic style of government. 13000 strong rose up and effectively beat the Emperor, the mercenary armies and the standing army of Holland. (Trust me, it was quite a sight) Completely annihilating all the invading armies, and the continuing to seiging zeeland, effectively capturing it within 9 months. And at 1405 they moved onto Holland. And Karl was named Karl I, and established his own tyranny.. such is the way of revolutions at times.
1407 The War continues, the army splits up and quickly assaults the affected areas, Utretcht and Friesland annexing them, Austria still hadn't had time to recover from their biggest army getting annihilated. And with the Treaty of Zeeland where Burgundy and Holland made peace. There were no real threat, and the war quickly ebbed out.
1408-1409 Every revolution....
Is often followed by a counter revolution. Nobles of the land felt they had been treated unfairly, and a conspiracy against Karl I's bloody reign and he had put the country in ruinous debt... so in december 21 the nobles rebelled, and Karl I was assassinated. And a noble called Karel , was named Karel I of Holland.
And it's from here we'll continue later. Trust me.. it was some wierd 10 years that.
