One last thing: Kudos to Paradox for this initiative. Asking the forum user base for such detailed input is rather remarkable and unprecedented as far as know. This kind of customer respect breeds customer loyalty and that is something big "mainstream" (in all the bad sense of the word) studios will never have.
Indeed, hope they will not mess with EA.

thank you paradox for listning to us! it is always wonderful to be heard :D

as for expansions i prefere larger expansions with lots of features than smaller ones (also makes it easier for mods to keep up with the engine changes) the price tag is irrelevant as long as it compares to the content (i.e. 9.99 or 19.99 is of no concern)

a large sprite pack with all sprites would be great as would a music & sound pack with speaches, historical radio broadcasts and stuff like that (perhaps with a few events to make them play at the right times :D)

First of all, a big "thank you" for Paradox.
It's very good to see a company that not only gives it's fans(= loyal customers) a chance to give their opinion on something like this, and then respect their opinion.

In my opinion, anything that changes the gameplay should be on expansions only. I'd rather pay more for a more complete expansion than paying just a little and get little. I didn't really like Armageddon, for example.

I wouldn't mind if there were DLC's for the more irrelevant part of the game, ie, eyecandy. Be it sprites, or new music (I really enjoy the music from Paradox's games). But stuff that doesn't change the gameplay.

Also, any content provided as to be top quality.

Paradox's Games are always heavily modded (in fact, I'm not playing the vanilla version of ANY of them). Given that these mods are provided for free, and that there is some very high quality work in many of them, be it gameplay or graphics, if Paradox wants to charge us for the DLC's, their content must be worth it.

Thumbs up for Paradox for caring about their loyal fans/customers.

For me the 'free with pre-order' was exposed as a scam when GG listed the price as £10 above retail outlets and indeed £5 above RRP. That makes it 'free, as long as you pay us extra money' ;p

Yes, the pricing is always an issue; this has to do with the fact that we have to keep "retail prices" (eg GAME in the UK) online or risk to lose orders from physical retailers.

For online only stuff it is easier for us to keep a good pricing structure worldwide.

To be honest, even though I don't like the idea of these packs, I'd still end up buying them! I do hope that Paradox find a way to release the Brit sprites maybe in the first expansion or something?

I agree that mod compatibility is a very big issue. Battlescenarios, music packs etc. would not affect that, and that's fine with we. But if there is some DLC every couple of weeks, with chages to the gameplay, that some mods include and some do not, that's no good. That's why actual changes/enhancements to the games should be included in a few big expansions.

Hi,

It is great that you ask for feedback from the community, and especially that you continue to do so when you got some rather harsh comments. After all, we all want the same, that you make even better games which even more of us want to buy. Although listening to the consumers seems like a rather logical choice, many companies neglect this, while Paradox does it in an awesome way. Thank you for that.

I would like a panzer general style expansion with battle scenarios that follow different paths depending on how you did in the previous scenario

What I would like to have is a MP start game. By this I mean a scenario which starts out in 1938, January 1st or at least one year before the historical start of WWII with the countries setup as they would have been they been controlled by a player since 1936. In other words, Germany, USA, Japan, USSR, UK etc would be expanding IC, stockpiling resources, researching heavily and building to WIN, not historical. For example, Japan would not be building or researching battleships but carriers or USSR not building or researching any naval at all. I realize that everyone has different views on their strategy on the build up for war but some things are obvious and an average can be made. And, since the game begins in 1938 (shaving off two years for MP games) the players can still customize their setups and have more time for combat.

I might have misunderstood it, but some people might also be interested in specific small additions to the game (music / battle scenarios) as long as it doesn't take our focus away from "important stuff" (like saving the world, something me and Johan are secretly doing in our spare time).

So what we'll do is ask you when we come up with ideas. For example, Andreas (who is making the music for HoI3 and previously for EU3 etc) has discussed doing a "Music Addition" for HoI3, and we'll ask you in beforehand if you think this is a good idea. We will present it as our "sales pitch" and then you'll be free to give us feedback.

Sounds ok?

Fred

and that is why we love you paradox ;)

as others stated the polls might reflect the fact that we havnt played the game. I also think the poll options might have done something as the first post from Johan didnt specify that the DLC wouldnt affect the checksum so if you didnt read most of the post you wouldnt have known.
i myself voted against then read all the posts and thought ups i might aswell have voted for DLC if its more music and sprites :D
I guess another poll a month after the release with more voting options and better specification of what you want to do exactly with the DLC would show a more DLC friendly result.

and good luck saving the world ;) you will have saved a part of it when HoI3 launches :D

Yes, a music download (that's in line with other high-quality album releases, content and price wise) I would definitely welcome. Thanks guys, first game company I've had personal experience with that actually cares about more then how to sell games to chumps.

Music/sprite packs are fairly light DLC's. They will not split up the community, are cheap, entirely optional etc... So cheap, in fact, that I wonder if they will turn a profit. If they do, they are a good idea, as no one feels left out ("I don't use sprites anyway", "I listen to my own music", "These sprites and music wouldn't help me with my Barbarossa anyway"), which could be the case if the DLC was not purely cosmetic ("You can do WHAT with those battleships?!", "How the hell can you supply that division!?", "Hey! This feature has broken our mod!", "-HELP! THE POLISH UNDERGROUND IS RIPPING ME A NEW ONE! -Wha? Nothing like that ever happens in my ga- oh, you bought the new DLC :(").

I honestly would prefer expansion packs with the added DLCs in them, to which I wouldn't mind paying up a bit extra, instead of lots of tiny gfx and sound DLCs. So, for me, expansion packs all the way, if they have some eye-candy in them I won't mind paying a little bit extra as well.

And thanks to Paradox for doing something very, very rare in this industry, listening to its userbase.

Yes its a real pain the neck when people are playing loads of different versions of the game. However I would be happy to see more expansions for HOI3 with slightly less content so Paradox can make the money it needs. If a game is really good already, then it actually makes expansions more worth having rather than less.
