I'm finding the 1520 campaign in AGCEEP as France fun, as I have a chance to built up my economy. However, I've realized taking advantage of Verrozano to do some colonization is impossible with 2 colonists and zero production. I know I can increase colonist production by making a more narrowminded nation. But, is that worth the extra costs for technology, especially consicering I'm paying another 2% due to inflation?

There are two other ways to increase colonists production with DP sliders :
going free trade and/or going naval

So, which option do people agree is the best? Free trade or naval? As France, with my infrastructure built up with good old tax collecters, with the slide completely to the left, I make a profit of about 150 Ducats a year, so spending 2 or 3 Ducats on a merchant won't bankrupt me.

IMO, it's a matter of taste plus it depends for which country in which situation. For example, as "normal" France, I wouldn't go "too" naval, because of Jinnai's explanation.

With France, go narrowminded. Provinces are rich, so your tech research won't suffer much. And as long as you pursue high infra/trade first, your economy can easily stand the penalty for narrowminded (and in addition stability costs decrease and you get more missionaries, along with the colonists).
