as Herbert Karling "The Great":

1) asked the Pope to invade it

2) started the invasion

3) after 7 years invaded all the holdings

4) voila - I am the first King of Venice

Is it possible to invite a claimant of the kingdom to your court, land him, and press his claim? If you're an Emperor, he'll end up as your vassal. Not the same thing, I know, but still, it's part of the empire.

One of the most fun games of CK2 I've had was just like this. I played as a minor count and managed to get an Invasion CB on Venice. Great times.

Costs the OP 500 piety. That aint cheap.

I know, expecially if you start with a Lustful & Cynical count Herbert of Vermandois. Anyway I lived a long live, partecipated in a Crusade and other wars against muslims so I gained it. Also my traits changed over time so I gathered piety quicklier. And then I saw Vanice having 1 holding more than me so I asked and obtained the right to invade it. Cool story bro

If you have a female ruler marry the Doge and your son will have a claim on Venice, it's cheaper

but I dont wanna have foreigner & not from my family dukes in my realm. So this is the only right way - the invasion.

Also, my daughter (the future queen) is already maried with a Sayyid.
You know, I wanna sayyid catholic Karling rulers..
She will be the only queen as then I ll change my succession rules to Agnatic

Foreign cultures are pretty much unavoidable if you want to expand big. De jure empires all have multiple cultures in them. Even uniting the crowns of England and France will get you multiple cultures.

personally I never had this problem
If i conquer the other catholic states, I only do invasions (pope granted), occupy ALL the holdings & assign them to my family members.

I personally don't see foreign cultures as a problem. Just roll along with them.

oh gash, you just ve said the contrary:

Foreign cultures are pretty much unavoidable if you want to expand big. De jure empires all have multiple cultures in them. Even uniting the crowns of England and France will get you multiple cultures.

I personally prefer my family members to have all the duchies. You know - for prestige matters (your family has tons of prestige at the game then)

I am so happy you did this, I know how to get Venice now. My only concern is that if my Venice doesn't expand, being smaller than them will be hard.
