i just thought (in my ignorance) that england had a legit claim to the throne of france throughout this period.

Well, it got slightly weaker (Especially after Edward III agreed to drop his claims in return for lots of territory) after this, it got weaker and weaker, until the treaty of Troyes, which the French said, yes, when our King dies, your King will become ... King. French king dies, the throne should legally go to England, but becuase he was an infant (And a pretty poor king, as it would turn out) the French decieded to take it for themselves. Cheaters!

;) come on. france is cool! northern france is the best. its like england, but they speak french :D

besides, france would never become part of england. just as england hasnt become part of france after 1066.

England was never part of France. Normandy was a kingdom in its own right, France hated Normandy.

Also, its debatlable whetehr they would have, had Henry V lived longer (The French hated their own King, and many wanted a good King to rule over the land, it would benefite everyone) however, he died, and was replaced by a futur fool, who was still a baby.

Had Henry V lived lonegr and untied with France, it cannot be said how long the union would last.

Check this in tax province hint. Then save, take idea and compare.

No need, just check the province and see if you are tariff income from it or not. Viceroys affects tariffs now, not overseas income.

funny, i was always under the impression Normandy was a duchy. a duchy granted by the king of france to some vikings in order to protect the area from other viking raiders in return for the titular ownership of the area with the french king and donor as the rightful liege of this entity.

William the Conqueror was a vassal to the king of France in his capacity as the duke of Normandy but was independent as the king of England and thus there was no reason this would result in France owning England

Normandy and Burgundy were both *part* of France once , but either got or had so much power that they didn't feel the need to answer to the French kings anymore :)

Bingo!

...but any and all ties were irreversibly severed the day the duke of Normandy also became the king of England - and thus his master's feudal equal.

Therein lies the very seeds of the Hundred Years' War, and war between the two kingdoms was always inevitable to some or other degree after that date.

Well yes, Normandy was a duchy ;) woops!

However, by 1066, the official status of Normandy was nowhere near what was ahppening. Normandy did what it wanted by itself (Well, maybe with the papacy), they grew too powerful and stopped listening to the King of France.

The papcy also supported Normandy over France, which helped Normandy invade England.

Are you saying that France invaded England, installed a new King of England, who then took out his own duchy of the Kingdom? Other way round ;)

I thought IN started in 1399. Was the start date, very much for the better, changed to 1337?

If i recall corectely what Johan said, you can choose a start date from 50 to ... don't remember when. It's just that the history files aren't adapted for earlier starts.
