i researched the omega theory decades ago but what does it actually do?

the L-gate thing is weird as well. ive explored the 7 L -gate insights and have a system with a black hole but i cant find anyway of activating the gate.

what am i missing here?

Researching omega theory allows you to build the omega alignment. This gives a flat research bonus to physics and paves the way for completing the event chain. Check the building options in your cap for one that looks like a mayan temple.

You need an actual lgate in your territory. Simply visiting is enough to start the clue game, but owning is needed to open. The lgate will show as a little red symbol next to a system. A black hole alone is not sufficient - it needs to be one with an lgate in it.

L-Gates can be opened by first collecting the 7 Insights, then researching a Physics technology called L-Gate Activation, and then opening the gate with a science ship.
