1492
Lords, Knights & Gentleman,
It is my pleasure to inform you that I have just been given command of the Royal Oman Armed Forces. Our ruler Sayed has stated that he wants me to help him to achieve ever lasting fame by creating a Dynasty to last 1000 years in the Middle East. I boldly accept his challenge.
1494
After 2 years touring the provinces of Oman and assessing the situation I realise the task ahead of me is going to be a very long hard and uphill struggle. We will have to use caution and cunning to strike our enemies when they are at their weakest and then crush them.
However, the Oman economy is in a shocking state and we will carefully need to build up our trade to generate some much needed income to fund our exploration, and conquest, of the region. The trading ports of Mascate and Ishafan will have to be maintained with as many merchants as possible.
It also looks like we will have some problems with the Shite populations of Al Kharam and Mascate, so I have advised Sayed to lessen the persecution of this minority till we are better able to handle it.
Alliances will be crucial to our success. Persia appear to only be interested in isolationisim, which is fine as it will make their eventual defeat all the more pleasing. But we had some good news when word reached us of Nubia and Ethopia's desire to join us in a Grand Alliance. Signed on 14th May 1494 Oman's first step into a brave new world was confimred.
Aden and The Hedjaz provide the main points of my gleaming eyes at the moment. Persia is too strong to even contemplate at the moment.
1498
The Shite's have revolted and taked the city of Mascate and the province of Al Kharam. Luckily our forces have been being build up for the attack on Aden and the rebels were quickly crushed, but not without some valuable lose of time, men and resources. Sayed will not be amused at the delay to the Aden Adventure.
1500
The build up of our forces continues ready for the onslaught into Aden. Our spies there inform us that our Royal Marriage with them has sufficently quelled their fears over our expansionist aims. Also with our armies being readied in Zanzibar and Mascate, we do not believe that they are sufficently aware of what is going on around them.....................Fools.
1504
28 April. At last the glorious day is here. Today we will begin the liberation of the people of Aden for the tyrannical despostic rule that has held them back for so long. Our forces have positioned themselves just as ordered. With the Army of Oman in Dhofar and the Zanzibar Regiment off the coast aboard the African Fleet. The Mascate Regiment remains on stanby in the capital with the Royal Oman Fleet. Believing firmly in the rules of warfare we break off royal ties just before the offenisve is due to hit.
In a suprise move someone called the Hafshid Empire have allied themselves with Aden and declare war on us. They can wait not least as we have no idea where they are hiding. We decide not to call on our loyal allies Nubia and Ethipoia
June. Our troops have crossed the border after and ardous journey and the Zanzibar regiment is in the process of making a landing straight into the heart of the enemy. What military Aden can muster has come into view and the Battle of Hardnmont is near.
Arlit, the Army of Oman commander engages the enemy on 28 June and despite the even start the battle is going to plan. Then 10,000 Aden horsemen appear on the field and create chaos forcing the Arlit to order the regroup. Dakhla and the Mascate Regiment are ordered to board their ships to link up with Arlit to crush Aden.
The Zanzibar regiment, besieging, the capital is having a torid time due to the lack of supplies and immense attrition it is undergoing. We need to break through or we will have to withdraw them.
1505
With both the Army of Oman and the Mascate Regiment now in ready to assault in unison it is simply a matter of time, time that I chose that is, when Aden's army will be brought to its knees and crushed. We engage them in April and they are wiped out after minimal resistance. Next stop the capital to join the Zanzibar regiment in siege.
By June the Zanzibar Regiment is on its knees and is grateful of the reinforcements who succesfully assault and storm the capital to liberate the people form their form oppressors.
The ruler of Aden even has the cheek to demand that we pay him 6gp for peace. Peace, we are not interested in peace we want conquest.
Without and army to defend Aden's two remaining provinces that is eaxctly what happens leading to the full annexation of Aden in April 1506.
1506
The war was very hard on the economy as several reinforcements had to be sent due to the attrition experienced in the harsh wastelands of Aden. And our economy is in chaos with rising inflation and massive loans interest. This will need some careful management, if it can be that is.
1507
Ah! The spoils of victory we have uncovered a secret hideout with some of the former ruler of Aden's maps. Whilst not revealing much to me they do reveal a new Trading point in Alexandria and 5 coastal provinces round to Judea. I think that a port there would be more than useful to future exploration. Alexandria is promptly swamped with Omani merchants as we move in to develop this area to a more enlightened way of buisness
However, my attention has turned to a place called the Nile, owned by the Mameluks, another Shite oppresor just like the Tukish who have a colony in Sinai.
The policy of toleration towards our own Shite's has worked as they have behaved themselves and seen the error of their ways, with both Al Kharam and Mascate converting to the state religion of Sunni.
1508
The inevitable has happened and we have been declared bankrupt. Our debts have been written off and loan penalties put in place for the next five years. However, we were lucky as we managed to just force through our ambitious infrastructure and trade expansion plans before bankruptcy came on.
1509
Peace deal signed with the Hafsid Empire, as neither had been able to locate the other.
