Old Savegames/New Techs

I can't use the new brigades (like '43 engineer and naval attachments) loading a HoI2 Savegame from a 1936 campaign I started before DD came out.

Am I doing wrong, is it because of the "old" savegame,
or because I have already researched the techs leading to the new units before upgrading to DD ARMA?

Saves are not compatible between HOI2, Doomsday and Armageddon; you have to start a new gaem when you switch versions.
