Aren't AARs something real from the military? Like extended debriefings and analyses?

Yeah that's where I think it seeped into strategy games from.

I wanna' add my own confusion to this thread though; now that I know that OPM stands for One-Province Minor, does that mean what I think it means, so like, a character who starts out with just one county?

For CK2, that is correct. A one-county count is about as weak as you can go, without the geography adding difficulty.
