I came across some rough figures:
Code:
[B]MILLION TONS PER YEAR[/B]
USA			168
Soviet Union		28
Venezuela		28
Persia			10
Romania			7
Dutch East India	7
Mexico			6
Iraq			4
Colombia		>3
Peru			>3
Argentina		>3
Trinidad		>3
British India		>3
British Borneo		>1
Canada			>1
Japan			>1
Ecuador			>1
Egypt			>1
[B]TOTAL			278[/B]
However, the numbers should add up to about 280, so there is something missing.

I have searched the Net without any luck, so I hereby make this post.

Someone has correct figures?

EDIT: now it adds up :eek:o :D

These were the numbers I found. Nothing mentioned about the other Gulf states.

Where is Romania ?

These are the production of rude oil during WWII,
Crude Oil
In millions of metric tons

United States = 833.2
Soviet Union = 110.6
United Kingdom = 90.8
Germany = 33.4 (including 23.4 synthetic)
Romania = 25.0
Canada = 8.4
Japan = 5.2
Hungary = 3.2

The big missing country is Romania. About 6 million tonnes per year

The Gulf States production before 1945 was negligible

I suspect the rest is from misc. Germany/Austria produced around 2 million tonnes, Hungary about half that.

Where are the gulf states? Thought they would be there. All I see is Iraq.
Prospecting and drilling didn't start there until well after WWII.

Remember seeing a whole damn documentary TV series about oil (US one, very interesting), where one anecdote had a US specialist in picking drilling sites stepping off the plane somewhere in the Mid East.

His local hosts start by tentatively asking him where in their country he thinks the best prospects for finding oil is?
Standing on the tarmac of the air port the American engineers scans the horizon, and then points: "There... and there... and there!" :rofl:

I missed that one, despite it was in my book :eek:o

*corrected first post*

@All: thanks for the info.

An interesting side comparison would be to post the refining capacities in the world pre WW2 and to compare the two totals: oil production and oil refining.

That is true; unprocessed oil does not do much good as fuel.

EDIT: now the figures adds up.

Precisely.

The ability to produce large quantities of crude oil does not necessarily mean that one has access to refineries that can turn the oil into something useful.

Similarly, having a large capacity to refine crude oil into useful substances does not necessarily mean one has access to the crude oil.
