Oh, what how? You want living metal?

So during my fanatic materialist + militarist "lets build robots to do all the work" game, I get the all the Cybrex artifacts within 30 years and find their homeworld right next to my own. Amazing to say the least. Suffice to say I get Living Metal within less than a decade (mostly due to engineering events and such). Since this is the early game I am the only one with this wondrous metal. So a nearby friendly AI calls me up and tells me this: "Gimme access to one of the rarest substances in the galaxy and we will give you this useless Teldar Crystals, its a great deal lemme tell you dat!".

My only reaction was this:

However it also got me thinking, do the AI ever offer minerals/energy credits for strategic resources? I might have been willing to give them some (for a while) in return for massive amounts of minerals. Also does anyone know how the AI calculates how valuable certain stragetic resources are? Since clearly Teldar Crystals aren't even remotely as useful as Living Metal. Even more useless for someone who doesn't use/have kinetic weapons.

My only caution against this is that it may lead to the TRADE OFFER SPAM! I can't remember when it was in EU4's history, may have been an early beta thing, but briefly nations would just spam the living daylights out of an offer and it may have been one of the most irritating things I have dealt with in recreation.

I don't think they offer but you can sell

I often sell off extra strategic resources to fill out minerals or energy

Such deals can ba a way to make them like you more. Not all trade has to be 100% equal. I even sometimes give strategic resources for free, especially the damage bonus ones to federation members while we're at war toegether.

I'm still trying to figure out why, in a MP game, my friend constantly keeps getting 'here, take these 1080 energy for free' trade offers from various AI factions.
Like, literally, 2-3 each hour of playtime. Whereas I've never even received any kind of trade offer from AI's that went beyond trading Star Charts (or, rarely, Strategic ressources).

If strategic recourses were of any actual value then trades like this may be worth it. But currently they're not.

AI just swaps one resource they have an excess of for one you do. They don't seem to give them any value, hence why you can get Neutronium from them in exchange for Terraforming liquids if you both have >1

Neutronium vs the Food Powder

Hey, that food powder is really damn useful. It can be the difference between a hydro farm and something useful, especially late game

My race's synthetic heirs laugh at your weak flesh and your need for organic sustenance.

My race laugh at your dependence on energy credits you could be using to sustain war machines

My race laugh at your dependence on energy credits you could be using to sustain war machines
You do realize that energy credits have less inherent value then food (aka, can be produced in higher numbers), have a building designed to give a % planet-wide boost to production and (with 1.5) will be produced per default in a capital?
Eating 5 energy always beats eating 5 food, because instead of producing said 5 food I can produce 7 or 8 energy instead.
And let's not forget that Synth's +20% to everything beat any other racial traits, except for stacking Natural XYist with Intelligent, in first place.

I agree on that. Also you can colonize tomb worlds/less habitable planets with synths, which is a huge bonus for zerging all the good territory in the early game.
