Could the attrition perhaps be based on the distance traveled rather than say crossing the end of the month? What is it about the first of the month that raises perfect storms that wash hundreds of men overboard on this 8 day trip?

Or the time when when within sight of the great city, like pulling into port, they just had a riot and 10 of them died, maybe it was a mutiny or something.

I'd imagine that would be impossible without messing with the land attrition system as well.I hope i am wrong though and that they are two systems coded and existing separately.

The Mediterranean (and maybe other inland seas) should probably have reduced attrition, as it's pretty placid compared to the open ocean.

Attrition ticks, like many other ticks in this game, are monthly to save on processing power.

Um...? Just make sure you don't leave a navy out to sea too long? If you want to patrol, start the patrol at a port and have your fleet go from there to the destination and it will go back and forth and dock each time for a few days. I think of it like, refilling fruit, so that they don't get scurvy, and fresh water, which you can't get out of a sea.
I don't understand what you are talking about with "perfect storm" the attrition updates for the entire month at the start of each new month... It's not as if it all happens that day. It builds up. And gets harsher the longer your ships are away from ports.

He is not talking about ship durability.You are thinking ship damage,he is talking about regiments aboard cogs.

You can really run this to absurdity if you decide to leave port with your men on the 30th or 31st of the month from Constantinople, full of troops you decide to sail to Kocaeli instead of making them walk across a non existent land bridge, but as you forget to look at the date before shipping out...oh shit, you can't even get back into port before hundreds of men perish on this 3 day trip.

I know it's a game system, but it feels kind of lazy for sea voyages, it doesn't work on monthly ticks for traveling except if attrition is present. Maybe sea voyage should not have attrition if they are less than a month in duration, or a month and twenty nine days if you are gaming the system a bit. It's just really silly now.

Ya, this has bothered me since launch, but whatever, I just decided to bring it up now because I got to bitch about something.

Distance travelled doesn't work. There needs to be attrition for land forces even when they are aboard stationary ships, otherwise you could use your fleet as a floating barracks, housing a massive army that could not survive on land.

Well how i imagine the whole system works right now is something like this : Sea tile = 1% attrition which is only checked when the month ticks.This is why you lose no men if you arrive the port before that happens.The game treats the army as if it teleported there and checks the supply limit of said province.

Which is actually consistent with everything else.

The army movement is also teleportation. Your army moves at the same speed at your enemy's. Mathematically and physically you shouldn't be able to catch them. However, you can catch up if they are moving to a very far province while you are moving from a close one, which can only be explained by the game model of movement consisting of delayed teleportation.

This is what we call "abstractions" right?

Oh I see.... I never transport anybody, I'd rather load up the moar straights mod, and I don't colonize, so this is really an issue I have no experience with.

Hence my first reply on this thread. You never know though.Maybe,just maybe,Paradox has two different attrition checks that happen to work the same.If not,the OP will probably be *salty* till EUV.It would be nice if a dev could clarify this tbh :)
