Hi guys, I'm relatively new to Victoria II and after making super Germany, I felt it was a really easy and just didn't give that satisfaction when making it, so from the advice of a friend I decided to try and make Italy. So I have a game as Two Sicilies, I am 9th in the world and own Tunis, Taza from Morocco and the western state of Algeria. So then suddenly in about 1845 the Garibaldi Redshirts come at me, so I was unprepared and they completely destroy me.

So I load from earlier and get a better military ready in Italy, to fight the rebels and I succeed at first and defeat the first 2 waves but jesus they just keep coming and eventually you have to fight that 100stack rebel army with only about 40 of mine. So if rebels win I have two options, Italy is formed and I get annexed and game over'd, or I stay independent, Italy is still formed yet I am independent but he is a rank in the world higher than me, and making Italy is off the decisions
list.

So after reading up a bit I heard that these guys make the kingdom of Italy for the highest ranking Italian state, which should be me since I am rank 9 and
Sardinia is 13, and the rest are just tiny and sphered.

If you guys could please help me out with this I would appreciate it, I know I am only 15 years into the game but I have been really lucky with infamy justifying claims on the northern African countries and almost reached Great Power Status.

Edit: I am running the game with a House Divided, Heart of Darkness, all of the other little dlc including the old Victoria II dlc.

Well that's the issue, I was so close to getting GP only to be spammed with an unrealistic amount of men just running into the slaughterhouse. It just doesn't feel right that after killing Thousands of them that they would just keep coming.

Thanks for clearing it though.

I'm a bit surprised at the massive amount of Redshirts you're facing, are they spawning in your lands or are they overflowing from other italian states ? Because I've never seen such numbers in my sicilian games.
Having such a huge number of rebels means there's strong discontent and you should try to fix that. Are you trying to stay an absolute monarchy and weathering the springtime of nations without granting any kind of reforms ?

So how should player form the Italy in game using Redshirts if not with Piedmont? I thought that Piedmont formed it IRL. It would be strange for me if only Two Sicilies can form it.

Piedmont can form Italy, you can be sure of that. In fact, historically it was Piedmont the one that formed it. And, in game, it is easier (IMHO) to form Italy as Piedmont than as the Two Sicilies.

S-P is in the noteworthy position of not needing to be a Great Power in order to be considered a valid candidate for forming Italy by victorious Redshirts, even if 2S is a great power.

Well, oddly enough after loading my game and trying a few more times, they came up with much less numbers and no reforms.

And to answer all those about reforms, I despise all political ones except for Trade unions, and my god my game is in the 1870s and I still barely have any Social ones, it is so difficult.

To get social reforms you need to encourage the Socialists. Do everything in your power to increase the number of socialists and they'll push your social reforms.

It is worth noting that although this may not apply to the person you're addressing, a significant number of Victoria 2 players do in fact want to run their country in Vic2 according to the way their own ideology tells them countries should be run.

Well, It's a good feeling being an absoloute monarchy, the idea of conceding any power just makes me feel bad, I like being the big cheese and few liberals won't stop me from achieving ultimate power. Also Free Press slows down War Jusification.

Yearly Jacobians are headaches though, but through my entire game I didn't get really THAT many, only a few large scale ones.

The downside of absolutism is that you're gonna have to put in some work to make industry worthwhile, interventionism is the best for me: capitalists do the heavy lifting to make the economy chug along and you give them a little boost as necessary. As the NGF I quite effortlessly become the world's industrial leader and the only thing keeping the UK in the number one spot is their military

I HATE Garibaldi's Redshirts. I had a very nice and successful game as a secondary power Two Sicilies with a nice little colonial empire and then Garibaldi swooped in out of nowhere in the 1890s and crushed me.
