When I see any Vehicle in Battletech I automatically think " A Mech is getting a new pair of shoes"

Have fun trying to stomp a Manticore.

I had a mission drop 2 Manticores and a Schrek during a convoy. Thank god the guarding mechs were well out of the way or it would have been a disaster.

Yep at full armor usually takes two melee hits. I prefer not to get close to anything bigger than a bulldog

Oh man, convoys...
Take a job expecting a half dozen trucks with some armor escorts, find half a dozen tanks escorted by mechs...
That's not a convoy, that's a mixed company!

That's what I expected too, Mechwarrior 4 had proper convoys with panel trucks and such and so did Mechcommander.

I hope they add actual convoy missions and rename the current missions to something like "destroy the enemy reinforcements"

To be fair, one of the definitions of convoy is

  1. any group of military vehicles traveling together under the same orders.

When my unit traveled we would still call it a convoy.

That is true, I just wanna have some convoys that are a mix of military transport vehicles and mech or armor escort.

True, however in our context (specifically the periphery) that number of combat units on the move (especially outside of friendly territory) would probably be called something like 'a sizable force'

Though I think my lance has killed more mechs in restoration space than the entire periphery should have.

Just wait, the LRM 20 isn't going to cut it later. I was drilling full armor shriek ppc carriers with LRM-35 strikes and not killing them outright.

Thats why i have LRM 35 on my Griffon, and have LRM20 on my Centurion. having 55 LRM drop on something will at least bring it within easy kill range. Do this to as many targets as you can b4 you engage with any of your Mechs and then pop out of cover and blast them.

Your Mechs are WAY move maneuverable then the enemy Tanks, use that to your advantage and jump around with those Jump Jets behind and out of cover.

Fighting mass Vehicles seems to call for lots of LRM and Maneuverability with Jump Jets.

I know I am currently running a combined LRM-80 (LRM-50 stalker, highlander lrm20, highlander LRM 10. One of my 20s also does 6 damage so it is effectively an LRM30.

My current rule of thumb is LRM boats should be carrying 15 LRMs per weight class, 10 if they are at the lower half of their weight class.

SomeBODY once told me the world was gonna...
...OK I'm done.
They are sometimes called 'rolling thunder'.

With some dedicated LRM boats vehicles become less of a threat. I'm in the first third of the campaign and use a LRM 40 Centurion and a LRM 30 Kintaro for that. Scouting is done by a Thunderbolt brawler which works suprisingly well with the right pilot. Finishing touches are done by a direct fire support Thunderbolt.

I didn't encounter any other heavies than Thunderbolts except for the story mission ones with which I had some bad luck (only 1 piece each). I would have loved me some Jaegermech...

hehe.. nice to see the overpowered tanks are still in vs cost and such details.
Which is something i figured out when experimenting with the old pen and paper in the late 80s.

I made some badly badly horribly badly flawed mechs like with lasers and no cooldowns, or forgot adding ammo etc..
Finally got a hang of it. iirc some one shot one kill giant autocannon was usually a pretty good idea, supported by smaller anti-people guns. (as in Nelson of Napoleon era: no one will fear your number of guns, its the size that matters)
Then had a look at prices... noted i got 5 times the firepower for 2 times the price with merely giant tanks.
So in the end the "Starjumpers" mercenary company sold their mechs and got tanks instead.

I find that ACs do for vehicles quite nicely. They take advantage of the Achilles' heel of all vehicles - the very high crit rate where a crit usually spells instant destruction.

That said, I tend to fear the larger tanks more than I do the larger Mechs :)

There's a neat set of pros and cons for each unit type in the Battletech world.
Mechs are high impact, high value units. Like cavalry they are individually powerful but costly and must be used correctly with the right support to live up to their potential.
Tanks on the other hand are cheap and efficient, the workhorses of the military. Like spearmen. They are the smartest choice when garrisoning the vast territory you control. This can be further split into Wheeled, Tracked and Hover armor and the same with VTOL vs traditional Aerospace but yeah, lots of nuance when you dig into it.
