Chapter 3: The year of discovery.
My name is Jacques Chatenau, Corporal in the 3rd Inf. Brigade in the Canadian Army. This is my prewar story.
9 March 1937: Today our division was reorganized with another. This is apparently being done across the front. Basically all of our infantry are to march to St. Johns while the artillery (Which we were told was not meant to even exist) was disbanded. We are on our way there and should make it to the new port soon.
Canada has Researched up to date weapons for each type of force (Anti Tank and Infantry), but will continue to work on doctrines and civil defence.
Our nation is working on 2 British Destroyers, some portable harbors and air bases, and the Canadian Mountain Corps, which is a 5 division 3 brigades in each light unit meant to attack in bad terrain or against dug in infantry. They are fast, efficient and are to be the "Pride and Joy" of the Canadian Army. This makes me angry, due to the fact that we want to be known as good soldiers too!
4 May, 1937: Our nation has retrained our divisions with new methods. We were trained with generally better doctrines that will be used in general combat, and the AT brigades were taught the timing for firing at the enemies tanks/infantry.
We have finally been merged with the other divisions in St. Johns. We now have 2 infantry brigades and 1 AT brigade in each division, although this goes against original plans.
7 May, 1937: The Hindenberg airship has crashed in the United States. Huge amounts of people have been killed or injured. Canada's government has remained silent on the subject.
2 July, 1937: Amelia Eirhart has disappeared. Canada has Improved their Mass assault doctrines to level 2.
11 July: Canada has Improved Central Planning in the army. Brigade HQ is getting reshuffled. I have been promoted to Sergeant!
12 August: Canada has Improved Special Forces organization 3 months before the 1st mountain division is produced.
15 August: Canada has Improved Civil Defense, or the ability for civillians to repair military items such as ships and vehicles. Repair courses are now free around the country.
20 September: There isn't much of a way to say this, so here is what was in the papers today.
11 October: We have improved Operational Level Organization.
3 November: The first Mountain Division was deployed today to a national day off. This thing has so much publicity that the new divisions even have a nickname! They are known by the army as the Hyena Division, light fast animals that take out bigger targets by distracting them then taking them from behind.
25 December: Merry Christmas! We all got leave from our divisions, so I am visiting my family in Montreal. All of canada dawns on a new year, a year in which our factories will pump, our researchers will think and we soldiers will prepare for the hell that will be life in the future.
Sorry, but I didn't have much time to get an update through (Only half an hour!), so this one was short. The next one will be out by saturdayish, so stay tuned for that!
