Just reached my last nerve with Swarm Queens and the ilk. Every game it never fails that they start appearing in my systems [usually they start around round 50 or so] and from that point on it becomes a never ending battle against them. I clear them out of a system and they are back a few turns later, and usually they start multiplying [starts out as one swarm queen, then two, then sometimes an extra 4 or so join the fun]. It has gotten to the point now where every single turn brings on a confrontation with them [~turn 160 at the moment] and every outlying system has either a queen, a hive, or multiples of either [or both].

It is out of hand for me, and I just get too danged annoyed fighting them over and over again to continue the game [PD is great against the minions of the queen/hive, but I am so tired of fighting them. Especially considering how suicidal my admirals seem to be if I try to automate the fights [even selecting "Peaceful" so I can get an interdiction fleet there doesn't help - bloody admiral will shoot halfway across the system just to take a peek [and then get banged up]]]. I think I will need to hang the game up for a bit again - need to get my frustration level down and think about whether it is worth starting yet another new game in hopes that this won't happen again [It only started happening a few patches ago I think, not sure - memory is hazy]

Sorry for the mini rant - just needed to vent. I really want to continue the games I have in progress, but the swarm queens are just taking the fun out of everything for me [it was better in SotS Prime where they were not nearly so common in my opinion].

What map are you playing? On the SOTS verse map I had exactly the same problem, and I was getting overwhelmed by them to the point of them ruining my game. I opened my save game and there were like 154 swarms by turn 120ish, vs 1 or 2 von neumans and 1 or 2 pirate raiders.

I havent touched that map again since, and I havent had the same level of problem. I havent even seen a swarm in my current game yet (using the random map generator).

I think this problem has been flagged, but they havent fixed it yet.

Yes, swarms pretty much ruin a game with encounters turned on. You cant do a thing about it it seems. I was fighting them in one game as well and it is funny that you fight one queen/hive and see already 4 other ones incoming on the tactical map. I love the challenge of menaces in SotS but its better to leave the silder nill right now.

I have been playing on Spiral I think [8 player map knocked down to 3 AI so there is plenty of expansion room] - same thing happened on a 4 player map and another 8 player map [can't remember the names and don't feel the urge to open the game to find out - having a bad day today]

I guess that is the only option, but I like menaces in general - they add some spice to the game; with how broken the swarms are though I guess I can only turn them off or just not play the game for a while.

They are fun actually. A queen means there is a hive somewhere....maybe more of them. You have to find and destroy it before it summons more queens. You can actually fight them as larva when they are not adult. Very funny. And they are actually not a big deal. Just bring ships with sufficient PD weapons to get rid of the small minions and then pound the queen with missiles. Usually after you destroyed the minions the queen becomes lethargic. Not sure if its a bug.

okay.. I'm at round 30, with 50% research efficiency.. i havent really a chance with my cruisers now vs. the queen. But it doesnt attack my planet, every round i get a fight, but it doesnt charge my planet. Do i have to destroy it fast or can i wait till i get better technology to kill it? are there more queens coming?

okay. for anyone else who is fighting swarm queen in future: I attacked swarm queen several times (10+) and did 500-800 dmg with rockets. seems like it doesnt repair, cuz i killed it after a time... so its possible to kill it with small cruiser. but: keep distance, only shoot with rockets the queen and all other weapons set to PD

Yep close close enough that your missiles launch at it but they aren't close enough they trigger the "horde" spawn of bugs. Let the accellerated time and your missiles do the work. It goes pretty quick as soon as your have about 3 to 4 cruisers.
